Brake Problem
Brake Problem
Well I seem to be having a problem with my brakes and/or the ABS. If I am on snow and I try to stop to hard it feels like a metal post pushes back on the pedal and I slide while trying to apply it, then right before the car stops, the pushing back stops and the wheels lock in place. This is even driving 5-7 mph and slowing to a stop. I have about 11,000 miles on the car, still original pads but haven't ever heard the warning squeak you usually hear when they are nearing end of life.
It almost feels like an ABS issue but I am not sure, is there an easy way to disable abs (fuse) that I can try the car out without screwing the car up in the process?
Thanks in advance for the advice..

it it sounds/feels like a quick hammering against your foot thats ABS bro... if you really want to disable it to check I believe the fuse is in the fuse box on your passenger side center console
have you ever driven a car with abs before??? feeling a pulsation in the pedal is quite normal during a pannic stop, thats the abs pump pulsing the brakes to keep you from locking up, and when you drop bellow a certain speed it stops and your brakes will lock right up.
quite normal. if you can, try driving someone elses car that has abs and safly performa a fast stop, and see what it feels like.

ABS stands for anti-lock braking system.
it does this by applying the brakes and the moment the brakes lock up, it releases, and re-applies quickly over and over.
that funny sound, and fluttering feeling pushing back on your foot, is normal.

This is 100% normal feedback you get when your ABS activates. The ABS pump will give a whirring, grinding noise and the brake pedal will vibrate and push against your foot. Main thing to remember is to mash and hold. If you pump the brake pedal with ABS, you will be far worse off than not having ABS in snow/ice.
I've driven a car with ABS before..this feels cheap/wierd, doesn't feel like whole pedal and doesn't pulse quick at all. This is happening no matter how slowly I apply the brakes..not panic stopping and slamming on them...that's what throws me off...it would still seem to be the abs tho as it only happens on snow...
If its doing it even when applying the brakes slowly ,tend to be caused from one wheel locking up easier than the other(uneven brake wear one sides pads glazed up etc...) or a bad or dirty sensor(false reading)
