Told about Aftermarket Downpipes

OK so my Cobalt Addiction Downpipe is clogging. When i brought my car to a performance shop. He said he was not surprised.

He said he doesnt know why these after market people are calling the same sized Cat converters "High Flow Cats". Because they are not. They are the same size witht he smae amount of room of flow. He said that If i ever remember the stock Cat ( its huge as u know). He said u need a cat that big to increase the flow because theres more holes of exit in it.

Now i knwo what your saying. The stock Cats were clogging to.

But im being told that If i want a true High Flow cat. Its going to cost me $180.

Whats everyoens thoughts on this. Basically hes not knocking the CA downpipe as a whole because he complemented the bend. But he says those type of Cats are no upgrade. Only another problem in the future which is why mine is already clogging

ZZP Downpipe with highflow cat is a great downpipe. I personally do not like any others.

Wouldn’t go around saying that, federal fines and guaranteed federal jail time if you get caught

I went with the Random Technology downpipe, supposably their cats are so high flow it's almost like going catless. Had one on my old car and it gave me some good gains. With the right material used, size of the cat itself doesn't matter all that much.

As of right now the cat is clinging bad inside. Its ruined

He said its not these vendors faults. They just dont know that its not better flow. It takes someone who builds cars to know this.

I have the zzperformance 2.5 inch down pipe with teh "high flow" cat. I recently replaced the cat with one off of an 08 Corvette Z06 that came to my shop because they have a true hi flow cat on them. They are spun as opposed to having bricks in them. Overall the tone is a little throatier, throttle response is a tick better and my 1/8 mile times improved by almost a tenth of a second.

well my Cobalt Addiction downpipe was blown out. The cat must have broke loose and It was a straight pipe. So much for the cat they put in there. There was holes all in the welded spots. Had to get that redone. And the apparently they said the Cat was welded upside down on the downpipe.

He laughed at it. It was a good joke considering CA isnt my favorite vendor anyways

I agree it isn't worth having one. I have no issues without it. It runs better. I don't care who tells me what or who tries to enforce what. They shoot rockets into space and play with nukes. I'll drive without a cat if I want.
