2nd gear
2nd gear
when i powershift or launch 1st gear goes good. then when i hit second the rpms drop and it feels like it bogs out until the rpms get to about 2500rpms. then the car starts pulling how it should. my buddies cobalt does the same to him. whats weird is when i first got it. 2nd gear was my favorite gear. it was pulling hard. i was wondering if all cobalts did this and if so there was a way to change my driving to fix the problem
stop spinning the tires through first, and expecting second to act properly.
your running through first, but your car isnt going the speed it SHOULD be going when you shift to second, because you spun to much.
your lucky its only bogging and your not tearing your clutch to shreds.

sounds like u have tire slippage...u cant put it in 1st dump the clutch and mash the pedal and expect it to really be at the rpms its saying...driver input...an0malous has a how to u NEED to check out

it's not slippage, sounds like what anomolous said.
in simpler terms, when your wheels are spinning, the speedo shows that you are going a certain speed. but in actuality you're not. i'm just making up #'s here, but suppose the top of 2nd takes you to about 38 (that's where mine ends with 7k redline). if you're not spinning, at the top of first you will be going the 38 that the speedo reads.
but, if your tires are spinning at the top of first, the speedo may show 38, but you may be ACTUALLY going much slower.
so, basicall, what you're doing is short shifting 2nd and putting it out of it's effiency range, but expecting it to pull like it IS in the efficiency range.
how do i know this? because if you take it to the top of first, and shift to 2nd, you will be more around 4,000 rpms or so, shouldn't be anywhere near 2500. if you're at 2500 rpms when ripping through the gears, you're shifting too soon.

no. this is trying to accelerate hard with the engine out of it's efficiency range. it's the same thing as accelerating to about 15 in 1st, shift to 2nd and floor it. you're not going to get going for a second untill the rpm's get up into the "sweet spot"
