This is mainly for Current Redline owners... but I was talking to my turbo-saturn friend last night about the Cobalt, and Redline.. and he was talking about quality GM engineering, and he told me that in order to change the oil in a redline, you need to take out the SC, cuz it's in the way. And if that IS true.. wouldn't it be the same way in the Cobalt??

Peace out

I can't believe that GM would do something that stupid. I believe they are paper inserts on the eco so it's not a filter attached directly to the engine block. That gives them a lot of flexibilty on where to locate the filter.

 Not laughing at you...just the idea that someone would spreaad that around. There's no way in HELL they'd do that. That's simply impractical...on so many levels.

I truly hope your friend was just f**king with you. If he was being serious i wouldn't let him touch your car or his own car.

well, on the ecotec, the filter is a drop in built into the block, very easy with the 2.2, but when you have the s/c over it, it's not so easy, bad place to have it, but it's not impossible to accomplish by any means, when you see the picture of the engine bay, the filter is located just behind and underneath the t/b, intake side, you can't even see it without looking around the blower.

don't be scared off though, it looks harder than it is, all you have to do is disconnect the intercooler coolant resivoir from where it's mounted, but you don't have to drain any fluid. removing the s/c though, go ahead and buy new gaskets everytime you change your oil...

vita please be shittin me, GM yet has another way to fux up a perfectly good car... first it was the stupid grouping of the compitition package, and now this?
even if you let the dealer change your oil i doubt they will do a good job of removing the S/C and reinstalling it with new gaskets and do as good job a job as doing it yourself, i mean after all they are GM technitions doing it.

I wanna take mine up to a 15 minute oil jiffy lube place.. and be like, 'Bitch Please.' And watch them pick their asses.. I'd love to see them attempt it. haha

Bullshit.

I've changed my oil twice in my Redline and you DO NOT have to remove the S/C.

Vita is correct. You only have to disconnect the bracket holding the intercooler fill spout and then you can reach under and get the filter out.

I was watching Myth Busters the other day, and the dodge car they had the battery died.. and you had to take off the front tire to change the battery.. They were bitching about it..
