HP Tunner Questions
HP Tunner Questions
Thinking of buying HP Tunners and tunning myself. People are saying "NO WAY" dude you will blow your car up. I have no tunning exp do have a degree in aero eng so I can learn I think but need your thoughts guys.
People who have HP Tunners is it user friendly will it block certain things so that you do not mess it up majorly?
What do you all think about doing your own tune?
THANKS
RYAN

this is how its gonna go...ur gonna buy it...u gonna hook it up...ur gonna change one of ur tables in 1 spot and then be scared to press write calibration...then u do it..and u go out and scan ur car...freaked out if something is gonna blow up...then u notice nothing..u smile..u open it back up and freak out and get pissed because u dont know what ur looking at or what anything means and why u spent soo much money...then ur gonna get to know people on here who are tuners..and there gonna give u **** and info at the same time...and in a few months time in the chair ur gonna feel comfortable doing others cars
get hpt bro...ur not going to **** nothing up..just remember dont do others cars until u've had alot of time on urs

not really..if he knows what is bad on the scan then no ur not gonng mess anything up..u flash the tune..u scan..bad **** happening..u pull over..reflash the og tune..and go back and change things and try again
it doesnt hurt to learn things before you start playing with your car though, is all Im saying I fully agree Raven you can basically tinker all day to you get it right but I am just one to know the basics behind it before the tinker part
yea..Engine Mangement : Advance Tuning is a good book by Greg Banish

Just read hptuners guide on tuning before you start anything...I read it through like 4 times before I started doing stuff to my car. It's confusing at first because sometimes you don't know what all the terms mean and stand for but once you start tuning, it all comes together. Plus, there's a how to in the tunning section here on cobaltss.net
My next project is leraning how to tune a ls1/ls2.....the tables are ridiculous compared to the cobalts....the cobalt is a good car to learn how to tune on.
i say nay.
theres an offal lot to learn for a guy who could just make due with getting tuned, its vary easy to **** stuff off and blow **** up if you just start playing with all the colorful maps and hosts of numbers.
take a good long while to learn from others before you start messing with your own car.

I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Electrical Engineering. I am still learning the ins and outs of HPT
no that wasnt my point..it was more along the lines of hes not new to engines..im sure he is capable of understanding and asking questions to other tuners and can comperhened whats going on
I plan on doing the same thing later in the summer when i have time and money to spend. I also have an aero engineering degree coincidentally, i'm not saying that it has anything to do with tuning or that I or any other knowledgeable person may make mistakes, but there some basic concepts you learn as an engineer that allow you to further understand how and why things happen.
I believe in reading up and learning from advanced tuners and making slight changes and modifications in areas which you understand until you get more comfortable and advanced. Also, having the proper equipment to watch your changes instead of blindly tuning. I look at it as a learning experience and a valuable skill, not just a way for your car to go faster.
