Royal Purple

Has anyone tried the Royal Purple line of oil? I havent heard of it til here recently. I looked at their website and they claim to gain up to 8hp from just using the oil. It was tested on Horsepower TV as claimed on their site.

i have royal purple in the car now. wanted to see what all the hype was about. there's zero noticeable difference at all, except for the weight reduction in my pocket.

Yeah i dont see where you would actually gain 8hp from oil. Especially if you are using a good quality oil anyways. And people are always quick to leave out what type of engine that 8hp was gained with. Doesn't mean you will gain 8hp no matter what engine its in, if that was the case i would run it in my lawn mower

I would stick with Mobil 1 for motor oil but i would look into switching to royal purple from the stock crap in your trans axle. Just becareful you don't strip the drain plug on the bottom. Its a pain and hard to get a new one too.

When it was tested on Horsepower TV they changed the engine oil, trans and diff fluid. I've always used royal purple. Never really any real gains felt, but the oil wasnt as dark after an oil change.

in the shop i work at i have seen countless cars come in and end up needing motors due to it being locked up. id say 3/5 were running royal purple. i personally wouldnt put that stuff in my little cousin's go cart. we do a lot of work on DHL vans and they run the RP in those. worse thing they sould do. im not saying it is bad oil but if you dont stay on top of it then i will get overely thick very quickly and starve the motor causing it to lock up. as far as the good ol' horse power line.... if they didnt tell you something and then put it in the store, would you buy it? they have to tell something to make you pick it up rather than the other one sitting next to it. i also dont like the fact that it is a very dark color to begin with and when it is changed you cant tell how dirty your oil is. i personally use mobil one in my car and i have no problems with it. and i only change my oil every 10,000 miles(when my car tells me to.)

purrty much says the noob- RP is a a group 4 motor oil- Mobil 1 is a group 3- do some research- RP is a better oil as far as viscosity and addatives. they say RP is proven better because it has been tested- not sayin Mobil 1 is a bad oil- it's just not on the same tier as RP- both are good oils- RP is just a little better. the whole RP line does wonders for your car...

just like COLEJJONES says at the BOTTOM DO SOME RESEARCH- theres a SEARCH button at the top of the page for a reason!

I use Royal Purple, and in my last car I used Mobil1. I personally prefer the Purple because when it comes out, it looks a little cleaner. I've also read that Mobil1 will actually restrict horsepower (while improving component life) and Royal Purple releases it. The Mobil1 I guess is a little thicker.

BTW - I still change my oil ~3000 miles

I guess any weight reduction isn't good weight reduction.

I have been using RP for about 3k miles, I changed it when I put on my cat back and felt what seemed like better acceleration but I havent dynotested it and feelings dont prove like numbers do.
