Electric Exhaust cutout
Electric Exhaust cutout
How do they work? What do they do? How are they installed? Do you need extra piping after you install them? what hp gains do you get? what do you think about them? In school so had to be fast
Thanks guys.
I hear they don't work on our cars good at all. Sure, it'll bump some extra hp up at high RPM, but theres alot of tq lost down low.
Cutouts are mostly for turbo cars which need as little backpressure as possible

it's something you have to be totally prepared for, in the sense that it will be loud, and sound really, really bad. disconnect your downpipe and start the car, and then see if you still want to install one. If you do, look up anomolous' thread about it, you can see how he did it, and i'm sure he would answer any questions that you had.
QTP (Quick Time Performance) is where your gonna wanna look.
But in a nutshell, you'll have an exhaust shop cut a section out of your downpipe (before your cat) and weld the QTP downpipe cutout in. If you get the electronic one, which I would highly advise, you'll wire in the toggle switch they include to open and close it at the flick of a switch. QTP offers sizes from 2.25" all the way up to like 4" I believe, so they'll def have a size for your SS/SC whether your running a stock or aftermarket downpipe. They're nice to have at the track, b/c you can just open it up and get a few extra ponies for your run, then close it up and quiet it down for your commute home from the track. My buddy used to have one on his STI and it was badass. But be prepared for loud, b/c its essentially like running an open header. Hope this helps

yea because seriously that sounds perfect to me it would be funny to get a loud exhaust ticket then while the cop is writing the ticket flick the switch and say officer lets just try it one more time and see!
plus i want some cheap extra horsepower.
i dont think girls like a car that sounds like the exhaust is falling out ladies like a car that sounds nice and love it when there walking and you just put it and 2nd and pin it driving by them hering that sc whine.
I have a qtp but it quit working cause the one pin fell out qtp charges 25 to fix it...the was my downpipe is ran we had to notch out a chunk of my passenger side frame rail to get it to work...its like a louder version of my wastegate dump that i can control...+1 would do again
No just no...tho i only recommend it on turbo or v8s (dual dumps)

I have a manual cutout on mine. I love it! Go the track, take 3 wingnuts off, and you dump your exhaust!
The low end does suffer some, but the top end is quite a bit better. Be prepared if you do it though, it'll be REALLY loud and not sound great. Only for track use.

It's definately a track use deal only. As already stated your low end tq is going to suffer quite a bit and the sound is absolutely ridiculous. My header busted at the flex pipe last year and the car was unbearably loud.
