Is there an internal gas cap?
Is there an internal gas cap?
You know how most if not all cars have a little internal metal gas cap that goes in and out when you put the gas pump nossel in? Does the Cobalt have this as well. If it does then my SS is missing this piece and it must have broken off and went down into the tank.

I noticed mine is missing as well... I think I remember mine having one when I bought it. I think ALL cars come with it these days.
I don't know that it necessarily BROKE OFF as much as it might have just opened and not closed.

Mine never had one either, which I found a bit odd. I put some gas in my girlfriends Grand Cherokee the other day and I don't remember hers having one either, but all other cars I've seen have.
do you have a link to the tsb? Also if it did break off do they have try and get it out. I mean doesnt seem like a good idea to have a piece of metal in the tank that could block something up
After more than a year with my '05, I realized mine didn't, could of sworn it had one before. Went to the dealer and they said they looked at other cars on the lot and they didn't have them either, told me not to worry about it.
From what i kno they are a second defense against air. As you probably know, gas evaporates in air so it makes it a second defense against it. Sometimes ppl leave the external gas caps off by mistake, my intelligent guess would be this is to help them until they realize the external one is off.
I like the fact that i don't have one because i can now fill my tank even more.
