Project: Blaze Orange SS Turbo

So it's time to throw this up on here... I've done a little visual "experiment", figured I'd get some opinions.

Background story on the car:

Got it bone stock last August.

As of right now, I'm lowered on CM springs. Just replaced my Tires with some 235/40/18 Potenza RE970AS and upgraded my brakes to R1 premium rotors with Ferodo stock pads and Hawk HPS pads in the rear...

For the lighting, I have a blacked out headlights retrofitted with some bi-xenon Morimoto Mini H1 TRS projectors with DDM 4500K bulbs and V3 Triton switchbacks... K2 LED tails, and pretty much everything else is V-LEDs (with exception of the map lights and a bright LED strip I have to light up my rear license plate and another one for the trunk that I got from autozone)

I've had my emblems, badges, and wheels blacked out with plasti dip for a few months now, and wanted to try a different look. Here's what I ended up doing:

I need a few more cans to cover some black showing on the rear half (went low on dip, and yes, I did rattle can the whole thing).

Let me know what you think...

Paint/dip looks blotchy.... and I'm not a fan of how you painted over the window trim.

The color choice is nice though, and I bet it would look great if done with a real spray gun.

I agree. You can still see its black underneath. But like the color.

Eyelids are usually a personal choice on any car. You either love'em or you hate'em.. And thank you.

The window trim still needs to be cleaned up. I just wanted to finish spraying it (like I said above, ran out of cans )... So didn't see a point to clean them now and then again later... And to be honest with you, I think I'll order a kit and use what I already have as a base and just spray a proper coat or two over it to even it out.

Thanks... And like I said, I underestimated the number of cans I need to cover all the black. If the car was light in color - I'd probably have enough, but since it's black, I needed a base coat of white dip.

But the whole point of the project to see what the color theme, evo mod, black hood, black roof, and black trunk would loook like, and I actually like it.

Not sure yet if I want to cover it with more cans, order a couple of gallons and get a gun from Harbor Freight and spray over, or just pull it all off altogether. Any opinions?

P.S. And about the blotchy paint, you're not talking about the progress pictures, are you, Staged07SS?

LOL... Sure considered it. But one day I might decide to go back to the blacked out look or decide to sell it a few years down the road and it's easier to sell a black one than a bright orange one. Plus dip is cheaper.

Hahaha.. All the Oregon Ducks fans hate it here too (colors of Beavers) but on the other hand Beaver fans love it. I just did it because I like the color and the combo on this car...

UPDATE: Just ordered a 2 gallon Firebelly Orange dipyourcar.com kit to go over the whole thing, even it out and give it more coverage. Will keep you posted on the progress.

Yeah I get you. Cobalts are usually difficult to sell regardless of the color though

I will. Leaving it till I spray it on thicker with the spray gun. It's a lot easier to clean it up when it's thicker target than the thin coat it has now that will take me forever to clean off..

True, but in theory black is easier to sell than custom orange. Heavily personalized car is always harder to sell than a stock one. I'm planning on keeping it for a while though.

Thanks, Joe. I'm glad I tried the cans, ONLY to say DON'T DO IT. Buy a kit. That's what I did to go over what I already have. I'll keep the existing as my base coat and use the spray kit to even everything out.

By the way, the switchbacks should be on their way to you.

I found this site I was thinking about ordering from a lil cheaper. Than dip your car. A Warehouse Full! - Search Results for "plasti dip" but I have an hvlp gun I plan to use.

If you already have the gun - then sure. I just ordered the kit with a couple of gallons (would do 3 but I already have about a gallon and a quarter of straight dip that I put on with cans.
