Transmission Wont Shift

My tranmission was feeling very loose while shifting today. It seemed like it was getting worse and worse. Then I decided to go up and down my driveway to see what was up and as ssoon as I went to get out of reverse it was almost stuck in reverse and when it popped out of reverse it would not shift into any other gear.

I called roadside and they are taking my car into the dealer and hopefully it wont be too bad to fix.

Dealer just called and said they have to take the transmission apart and I will be without my car for a few days. This sucks.

Car will be out untill wednesday at least. The transmission had over an inch of metal shavings attached to the drain plug when they pulled it.

wow dude that sucks.

Speaking of the roadside assistance, how long are you covered for with that? and is is transferable?

I just bought an 06 a few weeks ago.

Roadside assistance I believe is part of the factory warranty, so it's fully transferable.

I'm suprised they didn't void your warranty for abuse.

The dealer I go to has been really nice about things. I do not abuse my car. I never do hard launches or things like that. They said my clutch looks hardly worn. I have 22,000 miles.

So far what they know is the roll pin was broke and the fifth gear syncro was wore smooth. They are going to look everything over and then I should have it back wednesday or thursday.

Mine is doing the same thing to me. It did it when I first got the car...right off the lot. And now over a year later, it is starting it again, but only from 1st to second, all others seem fine. And I drive the same way, I hardly ever launch the car. Too afraid of ripping the front end out of the car like what has happened to some other people that bought 07's. but back on topic, my transmission is doing the same thing, it feels like there is something blocking the shifter from engaging into gears. let me know what the dealer finds out if anything else and what the main culprit is.

I would say that the transmission maker screwed it up , not the driver .

That's for damn sure!

I mean really peeps, he had the 5th gear replaced.

When would 5th gear be considered a "performance" orientated gear?

LOL

must be nice. the dealer has had mine over 14 days now for this. and they are too stupid to fix it. they tried to rig it and have me pick it up, they said it's fixed for now, but we are waiting on parts to fix it right. but you can come get it until then.

that sucks, Good luck with that. I think im very fortunate to have a cool dealer. I got to know one of the techs there and he is the only one that works on my car.

Oh man I can't even tell you guys what I went through with my dealer for this same thing last year and I'm a tech at a dealer! I tell you guys that it is a defect with our trans that I have fixed on mine a several friends cars. Its the shift lever roll pin. GM dealers are truely the worst because it takes a dealer and a GM rep to rip my trans out of my car and then to tell me its internal. It took me all of a minute to find out what was wrong after I snuck into the shop with one of the salesman after hours. Now just replacing the roll pin with another one WILL NOT WORK because trust me it will break again. I used a solid steel pin that I had at my shop and others I know have used a nut and bolt.

Once again the poll pin broke.

Does this happen to a lot of people?

Is there something I am doing wrong while shifting?

my problem is my clutch goes down to the floor and doesn't compress back up, was told the master cylinder is bad on top of the plate that it threads into needs to be replaced. $900 of labor for a $50 part. Not covered under warranty. I'm doing it myself needless to say.

It requires the steering shaft, clutch bracket etc to be removed.

My transmission is sloppy again just like it was before the roll pin was broke the last two times. Anyone remedy this problem besides replacing the pin a hundred times?

nope. but if the problem is that the roll pin keeps breaking then I'd just put a stronger roll pin in. I'm sure there's a reason that the roll pin keeps breaking other than the metal isn't strong enough... but if it were easy to fix then the dealers would do so.

I'd either find a grade 8 bolt the same size or just have a stronger roll pin made. I'm not speaking from experience with the problem, just telling you what I would do.

PM 06Black. He had many roll pins break on him. He ended up getting a custom fix.

So for the fourth time even after a solid bolt was in the transmission the pin or something to do with the pin was messed up on my transmission.

I was questioned by the service manager regarding my driving and informed him that I never power shift or drop the clutch. I did say that it seems hard to shift most the time during normal driving. The problem starts when the hard shifting goes away and its hard to find a gear.

They said that they spoke with a GM Engineer and he indicated to replace the whole transmission due to a possible defect with something being bound too tight causing hard shifting and wear of the roll pins.

So I will be w/o my car until next week it looks like.

Other than the transmision I dont have any complaints about this car. It is very frustrating though.
