Question Gas Tank Noise

Has anyone ever heard the fuel splashing around in your gas tank? I've never heard this before in any of my cars but in my Cobalt it sounds like the gas tank is in my back seat! I thought I was hearing stuff but I shook the car up a little bit and you can clearly hear the gas splashing around. Is this a normal thing? Like I said, I've never been able to hear that before in my life!

That's interesting. Normally the gas tank is situated under the trunk and supported on straps. Between this and the back seat padding you should not be able to here the gas moveing. Have you looked to see where the tank is located and how it's supported? You know they may have forgot to mount thee tank and just put it under your back seat

I removed the bottom seat cushion in the back because that is where I put my wheelchair so maybe thats why I can hear it so clearly if the tank is located under rear seat. Thanks!

I have that problem in my 96 Sebring. But mine happened because the previous owner hit something big enough to cause a dent in the gas tank causing one of the baffles to come loose and slosh around in their...kind of annoying but as far as that sound from the factory I don't know.

Was the sound there before you took the seats out?

Yeah man, that is probably exactly why. The tank is right under those rear seats, so since you remvoed the rear seat and the sound insullation, there is just this pieces of metal between the gas and the inside of the car.
