Some q about intense kit...help me tune

The weird throttle response issues (surging, abrupt motions, jerkiness) I havent completely solved yet. I still gotta regap the plugs (i know i know rob) and hopefully get a wideband on it. Hell from those runs we went on yesterday it said I was actually a lil lean on the top top end 855 and 865 at top (c0 setting)but I was showing IPW of 21-22ms at over 5000 rpm...another log had 30 as in ipw(c1 setting)...im thinking something was messed up. Gonna get new logs soon. Also i converted the 63 inches of mercury and it said i was only getting 16psi on a 2.7" pulley with a boost controller set on the highest boost setting (full closed)...weird. Also I got lots of BLACK smoke when I first get on the throttle and When im on it I was told you can see a lil black smoke coming out under WOT. Any ideas?

Also these are my pcm calibration ID # and Verification #
ID: 12601904
Ver #: 0000DD96
05 redline

I found out why my belt was squealing...I was right all along. I checked pulley alignment and the BF idler was 1/8" off from all the other pulleys. That and like I saw before the one edge has a ton of belt rubber on it and it matches the way it was sitting in the car and the way the idler was out of alignment. I'm gonna call doug tomorrow and get this all straightened out...looks like maybe he got sent the wrong pulleys.

If you want to do some tuning get a AFR guage and play with it a little bit, your at a higher elevations so it would probably help to lean it up a little.

I talked to rob and todd. Rob said he uses between c0 and c1. C0 got rid of a lot of my surging problems I had but I still have some. I probably will have to switch back to b1 though as it is running a little lean at the upper revs on c0 from what ive seen so far.

The black smoke on accel is do to 2 things, The overzealous use of AE table by GM and the fact we have bigger injectors which are not accounted for in the IFR tables.

Bone stock they chuck some black (aka;rich) smoke out the exhaust

Thats why i said, until we get pcm access (very soon!) you have to live with some minor inperfections. I only get a little surging after i shifted into 2nd driving the car easy. If i'm into more than 65%, no surging.

Gap those plugs!! I've seen/heard what some are running them at on this forum and it's absurd! As wide as you can go w/o spark blow out is best!

My car surges sometimes as well. I have the intense stage 3 kit. I feel it at low rpms and when the car changes from base to wot.

Are you supposed to gap the plugs from the intense kit? Or do they come gapped correctly out of the box?

See, I could not get away with the suggested settings....It stays too lean most of the way from a 45-80mph run, and it bucks and surges...Currently, I have the settings at: Base: D WOT: 2, I do not have any bucking or surging...From a 45-80mph run I stay between 12.8and 12.0 getting richer as the rpm's climb...

I'm running basically the same but a little richer on my Base curve.

Dan,
Don't you mean C1 not B1 in the above post?
B on the base would run you leaner. B=25%Lean.... C=20%lean D=15%lean, E=10%lean

Try adjusting your base a little richer if you have colder temps.

When the weather got colder at night 28-35degree's here in Michigan, I had to set my Base richer....(Setting E=10% Lean) instead of Setting C=20%Lean. WOT...I left the same at 1=2& Rich

Solved all the surges....

Weather gets up to 50-60's I would go back to C1 like Intense set it up as when shipped. Those couple of days when it was 50's and up the car ran great with C1. Now at night I noticed I had to richen it up to compensate.

Settings right now are E1 and tonight's Scan(3-19-06) with 28degree weather was 845-880's on the Aeroforce and .2 KR only on hard shifts at 6400rpm. Logged some part throttle crusing and A/F was still 850-910's all the time with no problems. Boost was 20.3lbs tonight.

I've been data logging my car and I'm going to get some more tonight. My long term fuel trim % average is -2% damn near perfect. my a/f in 32 degree weather is average 870 on c0. I'm going to stay on that here is why:

My idler is f*cked up. 2.7 plus stock belt and tensioner = no tension...I'm going to have to go back to the 2.9" until I can get a nicer idler...anyone got a part #? And itll be less air than a 2.7 or a 2.8 so I should be fine...i'll datalog to check tho.

Also I have a MBC between the solenoid and the lower input on the s/c bypass. I have the MBC closed completely for supposed most boost but I was only seeing 64 in of Mercury which works out to 16 psi (or 30.7 absolute psi)...with a 2.7" pulley. isnt that a a little low? How do you guys have your boost bypass set up...Fast06ss in particular.

The car definately moved and drove better on the c0 setting with the 2.7 but its a lil to lean for my tastes up top. (870 average was 890 until like 5800 then went to 865 then to 855 at 6295). Also I got a really weird reading saying IPW of 30ms near redline. Like I said I need to get a clean logging run in. Also seeing about 23 degrees of ignition advance under WOT.

lastly I have a q on the maf tuner. Ok so the base table really just helps adjust your ltft tables. The car is trying to get to 14.7 under part throttle conditions and will try everything to do that.

But under WOT...when u say make the WOT to 2% richer does that mean it is seeing -20% from the base then +2% for a total of 18% less fuel under WOT or how does that all work? I'm thinking a lot of the surging happens when we are transitioning from part to WOT tables and the maft has to do those percentage adjustment calculations.

Thanks,

Dan

Yup, that's what mine are gapped at. I had to re-gap 2 of them before I installed them when they came in the kit. Two were at .040 and two at .045. Set all to .045 and no problems here.

I run the $20 Intense idler replacement pully. Works great, but you have to mod your tensioner a little bit. No big deal and easy to do. Saved me money at the time. No belt slippage after the install.

You can get the adjustable tensioner from ZZP in Grand Rapids.

I think Donna carries it in stock also at

That's the way I would take it. The surging has some to do with that untill we change the regen and fuel tables in the ECM. I thought I was runing rich and was only adjusting my WOT settings like you are till a few days ago when I started to mess around with my base curve at night when the temps were colder. My LTFT's were reading great and I thought the base was perfect, but after 15 minutes of driving on the H-way I would notice the car go rich...910-980 after 3-4 45mph-100mph runs back to back. I would get a P0101 code(Maf code) and thinking I was rich I tuned leaner via the WOT settings. I couldn't get the car to run right untill I set my base a little richer and then the car started to respond better. Each car is different and it's hard to tell, but I was suprised that by going richer on the Base I cured my problems and the car responded better. Just something you can try.

OK regapped to .045 feels like I added 10hp and KR (what little I had) is gone. But in my logs im seeing 30ms ipw at redline (really weird and theoretically impossible) and m a/f is drpping off in the last rpm's everytime. In a third gear pull ill get as bad as 840 right before redline but in a second gear pull I'll be at 880. Also my iat2 goes up from 94 to 136 in 10 seconds during a 3rd gear pull from 3000 to redline.

I Think I'm safer than I was. I'm going to datalog my entire 51 mile trip to work tomorrow. Its lots of turnpike so i'll be able to get lots of WOT runs in lol.
