Warranty Reflash
I have the 6 year warranty and I am wondering if there's any thing I can do reflash wise or anything else for that matter without voiding it, because the 171 fwhp just isnt enough for me. I would mostly want to compete almost to the stage of a stock SS/SC but I doubt that can be done with a warranty still in effect for another 5 years and 10 months.
A couple things you need to know:
1) Our cars have 171HP at the crank. They put down maybe in the 143-150fwhp range.
2) Any kind of reflash of the PCM/TCM will void your warranty unless it comes from GM.
3) Good luck performing as a stock SS/SC would. They put down 210fwhp stock. If you want to do anywhere near that, you're going to need a lot more than just a tune. If you don't care about your warranty, you can get more out of the car... but there's no way you're going to gain > 50hp and keep the warranty.

guys i dont know if u know about the whole warranty situation....but...theres been a new law passed it doesnt matter what u have done to ur car....if u take it into the dealer they have to psychially prove that the damage that was caused if something happened to it was bcuz of what u did....then to void it they have to take u to court and such with the proof saying that so and so was voided...dont worry about ur warranty being voided....as far as im concerned gm did a terrible job with the strength of the transmission of this car....thats the only thing id be worried about
Yes, I'm aware of the law. However, if you happen to have an auto, and you flash the tcm and take off all tq management and tq reduction (as we tried at the track last week with my car), you put extra strain on the tranny. If my transmission goes and I take it in with the flashed tcm, my warranty will not cover that. Guaranteed. Same goes with the pcm... flashing it and running a redline of 7k instead of the stock redline will void warranty if they can even so much as point to that as a possible cause of the problem. I think you have it backwards too... as far as I know, GM has the right to deny you warranty coverage if they wish. It's up to you to take it to court.
And as for your concerns over the transmission... the auto trans is strong. It held up just fine at the track last week with our new tune on it. It felt solid and strong. It can definitely handle the power that my car is making now. Long term effects have yet to be determined, obviously... but I for one think that this transmission is plenty strong enough for this car. As for the manual, I think you have no worries there either. Both are rated for way more power than we can make n/a. What makes you think they aren't strong enough for this car?

However, if there is physical evidence that the tune has been tampered with (eg 7000 rev limiter, no TQ managment or traction controls, harsh late upshifts on the automatic etc) it COULD be denied warranty, providing they even attempted to check for items such as those, if you wernt complaining of them.
In certain cases (i.e. $expensive warranty engine//transmission claims) where they may "suspect" the software may have been tampered with- they can pull the ECM/PCM/TCM and send it to GM Engineering where they obviously CAN detect the alterations.
I've even heard of one case where a tech at the dealership HAD HP Tuners, and used it to determine the calibration had been altered and had the warranty denied.

honestly, most things that break on a car are not mechanical anymore. 90% of the issues people are going to have are stupid little bits like window switches or that kind of thing.
here's a simple guideline.... when you get the car, don't mod it, wait a bit so that if anything shows up or needs to be adjusted, that they will just handle it. if you do want to make mods, do smaller things or items that you can swap out easily if it has to go it (intake, short shifter). if you can use GMPP parts, they won't effect you one bit.

Yeah that works for people that own the software. However, if you buy a Vector/Westers/etc. tune, then you don't have the ability to switch back to stock that easily.

So according to the law, I could go out and buy a Vector's tune with Injen CAI (not short ram), Corsa Exhaust, and the SC spoiler and not void the warranty if I don't break or wreck my car? If so that would be nice.
