Seem that the 350Z and Cobalt SS are pretty close , somewhere between the RSX-S (slower) and SRT-4 (faster).

Those figures don't seem right. especially going from zero to 100. The Neon does it in 13.4? Even though it traps about 100 1/4 time it gets only a 13.9 second quarter? doesn't make sense...

The Acura Type-S does a 0-100 in 16.6 seconds even though it traps a 95 quarter mile at 14.9? What does it do for the 2 whole seconds it takes to get to 100? Pick it's nose?

I don't know about these figures. They don't add up. Where did you get this information from?

i was thinking that they come in a box of cracker jacks.... they are not correct by any means

ell they could be correct if all of them were using stopwatches and ricermath to calculate them

C&D adjusts their times with a computer model based on air temps, sea level, relative humidity, etc. Therefore the 1/4 mile numbers are skewed which would explain the discrepency with the 0-100 times.

I challenge any owners to match these numbers at the track with their cars in STOCK form.

I simply took these info's from the review's section of the Car and Driver web site .... maybe they are theorical numbers, I really don't know ... But the numbers were making sense to me, since I've already own a 2003 RSX-S with some mods, recently drove 2 SRT-4's and actually owns a 2005 SS S/C ... At my point of view, the feeling in those cars equals the numbers.

Yes I remember that...very impressive on those Pirelli's. The numbers, however. are all over the place. I think the best numbers I've seen are 14.7 from members' postings. I think this realistic. But a 14.4 reported by C&D? In the 1/4? That's a big spread don't you think. C&D mag tells you right on the road test summaries that .3 s in the 1/4 mile is a SIGNIFICANT difference for testing purposes.

Don't think that the numbers are so weird, what about the Motortrend's SS quarter mile 14.4 sec @ 99.3 mph ??? Pretty same number than Car and Driver ! Here is the link ...

http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coup...ks/index5.html

Notice also the SRT-4 quarter mile ET; slower than usual.

Its actually only 1.7 seconds, and 1.7 seconds to go from 95-100 isn't to bad when you take into account the wind resistance at that speed and gearing.

I'm a 0-60mph man myself being that you can do that legally(well almost.. it could land a reckless driving ticket, but not speeding!) on a roadway! hehe

I am happy to see that time improve to 5.9s.

I ran several 13.9's, 13.8's and one 13.7 with my SRT-4 in stock form. It took alot of practice (mostly the launches) to get there tho.

One thing to point out is magazine observed times are often corrected for weather and altitude conditions. This is why sometimes the numbers seem odd.

I believe I mentioned that already earlier on in the thread.

Not in the real world. From my personal experience, they are not close in Auto-X, not close in road course racing, not close in drag racing, no, those numbers are a bit misleading. A 350Z can also pull a lateral G on the stock suspension with essentially a tire upgrade.

Have you had a lot of personal experience with Cobalt SS's in Auto-X, road course racing, and drag racing? The car is nearly brand new! The 350Z has been out since MY2003.

Maybe you have, but I am doubtful...

As a side note, does anyone know how fast the G35 6MT is? I assume it's roughly the same as the 350Z, being the same car, but I would guess the Infiniti is a lot heavier.

Since it's new that means owners wouldn't take it out to automotive events?

Which G35 6MT? The 298HP or the sedan, or the 298HP coupe, or are you talking about the 280HP variants? The sedan weighs close to what the base Z weighs, while the coupe weighs anywhere from 300 - 400 lbs more than the Z.

Yes, it's heavier, no they aren't the same speed/handling wise.

Just going by the fact that I haven't seen a SINGLE SS on the road yet, and I live in Houston--Not exactly a small town. I have seen a couple at dealers, but that's it. So I was expecting there wouldn't be many at an event, and the ones there would be inexperienced drivers, since the car is new, whereas Z drivers have several years under their belts.

I mean the coupe. I wasn't aware the sedan even came with 6MT.
