Top Speed
less then 130mph (210km/h)
The tire rating is for that speed. So the limit could be that exactly or a few less. My wifes GAGT came with V rated tires but is limited to 126mph (not like it would go much faster anyways)
Hopefully a mainstream car magazine will test one soon. Car and Driver does a top speed test on every car. As much as a I like going fast---thats one big fine!

I would suggest that it is impossible for a Honda Accord 4 cly making less then 150hp to hit 140mph. Okay--I am not suggesting it---its impossible. Unless you had a 100hp shot of nitrous
Radar gun is the only way to go. People do not realize how much areodynmic forces increase and how you need alot of hp to overcome increasing forces at high speeds.

One good thing about the SS/SC is that they have very accurate speedos even when passed 140.
A guy on another forum I go to used a calculation on what's his names vid going 147. It turned out that the actual speed was 145. 2 mph off is very pretty good.

I had my SS 2.0 upto 140 by the speedo. I decided I wanted to live at that point and since i was on I-95 I decided to slow up. But it is nice knowing I could do it again if I had to. (can't think of any good reasons why)

Solstice tops out about 125 MPH due to it's very large coefficient of drag. I'd expect the Cobalt to get a bit more out of it then that. It really depends on the 5th gears gearing too. HP really doesn't limit top speed as much as how your 5th gear is sized and your aerodynamics.
my gps says 140.7 is the top speed, and that was on a 5 mile straightaway with no cars. i was riding at 140 for about a mile before i cut the engine. although, i've hit 150 (by speedo) going down a hill with a tailwind.
Ok I guess I'm the first to try in the SS, but if anyone else does this please let me know WTF. I went to see how she felt in three digit speeds, but I hit 100 and shifted into fifth and then the car would not go any faster. It isn't like it didnt have the power or the transmission (it was only 4K RPM) to go any further, but it seemed like a new technology that just would not let fifth go any faster in 100+mph.
I then tried it again later that day and I kept in fouth a little longer and hit 117mph and shifted and the same thing happen, nothing. It is really weird.
FYI: This is was done both times on a road were there was no other cars and was really straight, and the only person that could of got hurt was me.

All this talk got me to attempt some high speeds.
I hit just over 190km/h (about 120mph) I was in 5th car was still accelerating----(felt very stable) but then I backed off-----it was dark and was really over srving my headlights.
The tire speed rating would mandate thats it goverened at or less then 130mph.
Wish there was a place I could do top speed legally

yeah if they want us to get off the streets with our racing they need to give us racers more than a strip to play on we need twisties and long straightaways that dont cost $150 (butler in my area) and then we will stop
