As of today on an empty 3 lane highway I got my 2.4 Automatic SS Sedan up to 121. At about 110 it shifted into the final gear. At 121 I was at aprox 43-4400 rpm's. Im not gonna lie but it really didnt seem like the car was going to go much faster... Maybe AT MOST 5 MPH more. That was it. I know that there was plenty of room left on the tach, but as someone stated earlier it seems like the govenor REALLY kicks in and thats all she wrote home to mom...

After 120, it's pretty damn fast anyway in a small car. That's what I liked about my manual Accord from 93. Pre-OBD-2 and the 5th gear was more than just a gas saver. It actually still gained speed. The Cobalts new style governor obviously is just for gas mileage conservation. The Cobalts seem to get to about 80 really fast, then die down. At least the 2.4 auto. My Monte too though. It gets there REALLY fast, then dies. Just a slight observation. I haven't tried to go any faster than 80 in the Cobalt, and 90 in the Monte. The Accord was the 100+ beast.

I've been up to about 120 in my SS/SC, and it was still pulling pretty good. I got out of it because the road surface wasn't suitable for going that fast.

just curious to see how many ss/sc owners have hit the top speed ? I tried once , car had power to 245 km then it was a slow pull to 255km then i backed off the gas because i didnt want to rev my engine for to long with only 3000 km on it.

P.S. my car is all stock and I was by myself and on a straight section of a 4 lane highway with no trafic (4 am ) the only thing i could hurt was myself and maybe a deer.

more HP can mean more top speed.... but it's more gear ratio than anything... you might get 1 or 2 MPH....

I have had my 06 ss up to 130 and let me tell u after 110 oh my god it crawls. I think that 130-133 would be all shes got. Seemed like past 129-130 it was pretty much topped out.

I have an ss/sc and I wanted to see how fast it would go, when I got up to around 120 or so the road and everything are moving so fast you have like no time to respond, and all the little hills in the road feel like going over speed bumps, and its just scary when you look at the white lines in the road and they look like 1 flashing solid line, I chickened out at about 125.

I hate to tell you guys but I can guarentee its over 127 because mine came with Z-rated tires (edit : I will take pics of this too)and Saturday night I was racing a 5.0 and got to 125 in fourth still climbing. You get a higher speed in fourth then you do in fifth which is why you stopped gaining in fifth. If you guys want pics I will ask someone with a camera to ride with me tonight and do it.

the computer in the 2.4 has a 130 MPH limiter .. it only has H rated tires on it even though the window sticker says they ar Z Rated and i have toped it out at 130 but my arm and ear got sore from my wife hitting me and yelling at me to slow down ... it is real stable but i would not do it on a windy day

I am kind of the old guy on this site, I have not seen dotted lines go solid at 120 mph.
Perhaps you were closer to 170 mph and did not realize it ??? J/K , No disrespect meant but perhaps you should keep it under a 100 for a couple of years.

my 2.0 SS/SC was going 148 mph neck and neck with my brothers ION redline. This is per the tach though. Your flying by cars so fast its like they are standing still. We did this on a 4 lane highway with very light traffic. It was the only time ive been up that high. I still had room on the RPMS too, just wasnt going any faster.

I have an SS (not SC) and I've only brought her to 100... I'm scared to go any faster cuz I don't want to get pulled over... sure is a rush tho... Feel the need for speed?!?!?

Yeah, probably a wise desicion... Getting pulled over in triple digits is not good.
