08 cobalt ss tc deck question

I have a question about the stock deck question in an 08 cobalt ss tc. Say if you wanted to swap it for a deck that is in an 09 cobalt ss tc because the 09 deck has a little more features such as the usb port and etc. Would you be able to do it? and if so would you have to change the wiring harness or no because the decks are same size and very similar just one has the usb port and other features, the main reason I want is because of the usb port and how you can control music when you a plug a usb device into the deck. Thanks.

I have the USB feature and i use it with my ipod and you control it on the dash controls like a CD.unlike the AUX port in which it is controlled by the ipod. But if I were you I wouldnt do this it will probably be to complicated and cost more than it is worth. The only thing I use the USB is for the ipod and AUX port works just as well. You might be able to do it but like what I said it will probably be expensive. What else do you plan to use on the USB other than an ipod?

Have you looked into getting the PAL (personal audio link)? It will allow you to at least get the ipod song and track names, etc to be displayed on the deck. And you can shuffle through your songs through the deck.

My Ipod is long gone so I would have planned on using a flash drive and possible an external usb hdd. That is why I asked about it, and if it cost like 300 to buy the 09 deck I wouldn't care and anyways how much can it really cost more than that? because touch screens are like 100 more and so on. I also can't find an aftermarket deck with usb port in front but I don't think I would want an aftermarket anyways. If the wires match up the same in 08 and 09 it would be great but my luck is not that good and then I would just buy the deck and then install it. Thanks.

I work at a GM dealer, I don't have the exact price, but for alot of newer GM radios pricing is in the $600+ range for a new deck.

I also work at a dealership, and the best way to get one is give the kid at your local best buy install bay your # and a 20 and tell him to call you asap when one gets taken out. and also post up on some forums and see if someone would maybe trade with you who doesnt use the extra features. the only extra your going to get is the usb port, the blue tooth wont work because it links w/ your steering wheel controls and is not compat.

but yes if you were to simply swap your decks, nothing has changed, they would both match right up. but make sure you write down any info off the back of the decks incase they need a radio code to unlock themselfs! hope you find this helpfull.

i'll be looking into this as well. i was a little disappointed that my deck was only single-disc. so, it'll probably be either a 6-disc or single/USB swap for me. i'll post any info i find about compatibility and the theft lock.

The decks are vin locked so when you get a new radio you will have to have the dealer go in with the scan tool and rehone the new unit your cars vin. My dealer told me $156 .

i have acces to a TechII.

ask around at different dealerships. try to find a tech that'll do it on his lunch break for cheap. no reason to pay over an hours worth of labor for a synch.

Ok thanks for the help. I guess it seems a lot simpler to get an aftermarket deck with a usb port and then just run an extension out if i have to and I can plug it any usb music source. Another question though will I in any possibly way be able to use steering wheel controls for volume and change track? Is there a way? Thanks
