Water pump question

Ok guys silly question. I have a 2007 ss 2.0 ecotec, my issue is the car is not over heating but has been running warmer then usual. I checked the radiator and it was cold not hot with car at operating temp, the hose going into the head on pass side is hot and pass side rad is warmer then drivers side bit still cool. I figured it was the thermosat but that didnt change anything. And now for some reason my fans are running all the time. I also have heat and it gets hot. The all started after I installed the Zzp stage 3 kit, well I think it started then. My question is if the pump is dead and not circulating water wouldnt it be making some kind of noise? I also did the burp thing a few times and hasnt helped.... Anyone have any ideas?

If your heater is still working the water pump is most likely still moving coolant.

What thermostat did you put in? Some of the cheaper aftermarket ones are unreliable at best. It sounds like you have one that isn't opening.

I thought that about the factory one, I replaced it from Orielly's highly likely that both the factory and the new one would do the something but could be

So each time you burped it did you get air out?

There is the potential you still have an air lock, but I'd order one from a GM dealer or Crate Engine Depot. Or you could pull the one out you installed and toss it into a pot of water with a thermometer and see if the T-stat opens

If you need to... check my how to for installing cams and cylinder heads.

I explain how to fill and burp the engine cooling system properly.

Just re-read your post... are you talking about the intercooler (water pump), or the actual engine water pump? They are two separate systems.

Because installing a ZZP S3 kit should have no affect on the engine coolant system.

I didnt get any air out when I burpped it, and I understand the intercooler and actual cooling systems are seperate. I think it has been doing this since I did the cooling flush a few months back, I just didnt notice it untill I did this kit. Putting more of a demand with the stealth heat exchanger in front of condencer and radiator, maybe there is less air flow and cause to show. Well today I drained all fluid and refilled and same. Once the fans are on the dont shut off even with the temp showing 170. I was thinking about pulling radiator to see maybe it has blockage. It is on jack stands now with system open hopping it will magically fix its self.... Lol. Does these water pump just stop working, or are they like all others just leak when they go bad

I just looked at you how to on the head install, I had actually thought about that after i already filled system. I may drain again and fill that way and see what happens. Thanks for all the input guys. I am new to this FWD stuff, and LSJ's. I also have a #1 misfire at cruise after install of the stage 3 kit. And also should I have car on all four tires during refill? Well did the fill the way your how to said to do it, still same took for a drive around block got to 185 and stayed there, got to house checked to see if it had pressure at radiator and nothing, radiator cold engine hot!!!! WTF!!!!!

Go for a half hour drive and then feel the radiator again.

If you think the temp sensor is bad it's a quick fix

Do you think you could make a common problem /maintenance sub forum to make it easier to find those useful how to? I had to dig a few pages back to find your head install thread

I was meaning for more than just your how-to's. Ones for the common issue, sort of like the LSJ mod guide thread, but include the oil change thread, the boost leak thread, head install, roll pin, etc.

I don't think a sub forum will help. We have so many as is.

I always use the advance search on here and select the category such as how to, suspension, performance, etc. and always find what I'm looking for quickly.

If I know the user who made a certain thread, I search the way I showed you in my last post.

I am not sure it is a temp sensor issue, i drove home from work 30 min and it still has no pressure and radiator was cold. I really dont want to blow a head gasket. The temp isnt the issue its the radiator staying cold

Is coolant recirculating through your surge tank?

Also I know its a kind of silly question, but the T-stat was installed the correct direction?

You could disconnect the discharge line from the water pump (off the block) and see if coolant is pushed out when cranking the engine, just don't start it.

Well after further review it is still not cooling right. I dropped the rad just to make sure it isnt the issue and it is good. This stupid thing will go to temp (180) go past when the thermosat should open and start cooling. Climed to 195 and will hover there. Wont ever go down after it gets to and past 180, and no pressure. Well I am thinking water pump. The radiator hose going to head gets hot one from thermoset cold. And yes I filled it correctly numerous times now. Do you guys think it is the water pump not working correctly? I really dont want to dig into that if I dont have to

Again what am i missing here???
195 isnt an abnormal operating temp in the summer, also unless something is changed with zzp s3 fans shouldn't be coming on at 190 unless you have the ac recirculation or defrost on
