08 cobalt ss vs 08 caliber srt4?
Its hilarious reading these posts, you guys throw around the term WALK way too much. You act like these two cars are horribly different. They arent really that diff power wise. The weight and the looks but looks have nothing to do with a race of course. Its a drivers race, say you will walk or have walked him is just funny.

P.S. In fact, any race where you aren't concerned with an apex isn't really racing. And you need to brake too. Which excludes 50% of NASCAR races as well.
P.P.S. Mad props to Tazi, I'm glad a fellow '09 purchaser hates that people are only concerned with straight line acceleration. I'm in good company.

See Im pretty sure you dont see a pro roll racing series, so your just being an ass now.
Learn how to launch your car or learn how to road race or auto cross. Then tell us what your racing. And I dont very well see SOLO or SCCA events for roll racing.
Ill take an auto cross or road race any day over drag, but at least you have a standard start and it takes some skill to get your car off the line efficiently in a drag race. Not HONK, HONK, HONK, Mash the pedal. Doesnt take much to get that done

The caliber does not "weigh" a lot. Curb weight is like 300lbs more. And the caliber has an extra 80hp to more than make up for that.

Just as they are criticizing people for only being concerned with straight line speed, they are only concerned with anything but straight line speed. I think both are important...and for anyone who does not think Nascar is racing...I'm sure you would feel differently once you hit 215 MPH on an oval...
Car & Driver
08 Cobalt SS
Weight: 2960lbs
0-to-60: 5.7 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.2 seconds
08 CSRT4
Weight: 3233
0-to-60: 5.8 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.4 seconds
The CSRT4 makes +25hp and +5 lb. feet/torque over the SS/T, but it also weighs 273 lbs. more.
CLOSE ... BUT COBALT SS WINS!

I liked your comparison there! Yeah Nsrt-4 when modded are just crazy fast... But the rest of the car over-all doesn't compare to the Cobalt SS. But it just depends on what you're looking for. If you want crazy fast for a FWD car then the Neon SRT-4 is your car, if you don't care about anything but speed.
I'm with you guys, I hate how cars are only judged by how fast they can go in a straight line... I do autocross, and did a couple track days, and I've posted quicker lap times then some cars that had twice the HP I did and I'm completely stock... Take it to a track, a real track and see how fast that Caliber or Neon SRT-4 will go... or any other car will go...
Yeah, like most of us are saying it's going to be a drivers race. If I was you I'd not only race from a roll, but I'd do a couple from a dig. Fare is fare.
And again it's personal preference, 1BADASSS/SC, who used to have a Cobalt SS/SC likes his CSRT-4. And that's his personal preference, which he's entitled to and he can have whatever he wants, and as long as we're all happy with the cars we have that's all that matters.
Obviously modded SRT-4's are notorious for being crazy fast, but now that GM finally got smart and offered a turbocharged powerplant for the SS when they both start doing heavy mods the gap will be real small now... Now it's a different story with the Cobalt SS/TC...

Considering that in another thread I posted the 5-60 times for the Cobalt SS TC as 6.1 and 6.2 (from magazines), then I don't see why you state that from a street start the CSRT4 would win, when your numbers are 6.7. As most are stating, it's a driver's race with a slight edge to the SS/TC.

O really?

On the dyno the Caliber proved it's got the power. We measured 281 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque — numbers that pretty much establish it as underrated from the factory.

Mustang GT vs CSRT4
Standing ź mile………………13.8 sec @ 102 mph
110mph………………16.5 sec
120mph………………20.1 sec
130mph………………26.1 sec
Street start 5-60………5.9 sec
On a SRT-4 Caliber they tested, it preformed the following.
Standing ź mile………………14.4 sec @ 103 mph
110mph………………16.8 sec
120mph………………20.0 sec
130mph………………26.2 sec
Street start 5-60………6.7 sec
CSRT4 trapped higher than the GT. Roll race, you will lose. From a dig, it will be close. Most run low 14's stock. One guy is running ~300 Hp to the wheels from an exhaust and drop in filter only.
Its got a big turbo, bigger than the SS/TC. You better be careful.

its 200....
I have the title:
CSRT4: 3100 lbs and some change
SS/SC: 2900 lbs and some change
Im pretty sure the SS/TC weighs about the same as the SS/SC.

CSRT4 pulls hard in the top end. One of its primary sweet spots starts at 60-65 mph in 3rd. I agree though, drivers race by far.

Let's see the difference on a road course.
