ok I bought some ss/na rims for the track I also bought the MT bike slick.

I want to know if I need anything more to install it the tire shop said I had to grind the inner beed on my rim. They said they cant go over 75psi or the tire would blow.

How do you guys put this tire on the rims!!!
I have tryed 4 shops and not one can get it to fit.

How did you guys get this tire to fit?

with a tire donut, its basically a ring made of rubber u lube up with tire lube and stick it betweeen the rim and the tires bead. it fills the gap and when u hit the bead setter on the tire machine it sets the bead and pops out... kinda hard to explain but hope this helps...

Lots of lube, I mean lots. and about 80 psi is what it took on my car. The guy said that for every four he does usually 1 blows.

thanks cmiller I was waiting for you I knew you would know....did the guy use a cage because that would hurt if it blows? We had them up to 85psi and the other was up to 75psi. did you grind your inner beed? and did you use the tire donut?

no he's not actually. It's a trick for getting the bead to seat on the rim. I've only used ether, but I could see brakecleaner possibly working like he had recommended

Basically what he said...

Or max air pressure, LOTS of lube and a 4 lb mini-sledge.

mount the tire on the rim, keep are pressure flowing into the tire, spray a THIN layer of ether over the bead, and then carefully light the ether. When the ether ignites the tire will make a popping noise when it seats, and you shouldn't hear the air pressure leaking anymore at that point if it seats propperly (obviously).

The either trick was born in the dirt track pits years ago. It DOES work but it CAN hurt. Lay the tire down and DON'T stand over it when you strike the match. Not sure if lube would help or not.

The guy didnt use a cage but used a thing he called a rip cord, it was basically a 5 foot long air hose with a quick connect so he can just pull it and it will break apart if need be. Dont be trying the ether and stuff because you get to close and its not good. They are loud as hell when the bead seats. And I did not grind the rim at all.

I would use more of a dish soap or something. The ether works, but it puts you to close to the tire, and if you get to much ether in there, it can go boom. Especially on a bias ply thin wall tire.

Don't use baby oil or dish soap. Neither will dry and may cause the tire to spin on the wheel. There are special bead lubricants which are slicker than both things mentioned but dry tacky.

And yes, while ether works, it's quite dangerous.
