From what I've heard it's just as fast stock for stock already (though the handling isn't on par) so I would think so.I've seen a vid on the current on running a 13.7 stock and I'm sure there are better times.

In my opnion.... they won't make the car worse, so it can only get better. Like every record....everything gets better/faster as time goes on. I wouldn't be surprised if it is better than the Cobalt SS/TC.

IMO 260 + hp is starting to be a lot of HP for a fwd production car. They have to make this daily drivers not drag racers. So I don't believe it'll be that much faster if it's fwd.
If they make this AWD and make it as nimble, they've got a winner.
But I doubt it's going to be in the same price range anymore.

awd makes price go high.... same reason the cobalt will not/(and never did) have awd..
so IF ms3 comes with awd it's no longer in the same range as our trusty cobalt

Its crazy, cars get faster and faster over time......pretty soon 400whp stock will be the norm.

I hope this is true. I like cobalt's being on top. But I think they are going stock for stock, and the factory back mods are popular....and mazdaspeed most likely won't take it laying down. They'll probably be direct competitors.
I dunno man. The Vibe/Matrix have AWD options and are in the Cobalt Sport range. AWD isn't as expensive as it used to be. The WRX competes with the balts, and it is AWD.

lets put it this way. the MS3 was top dog till the SS/TC came out. (im sure Chevy used the MS3 as a benchmark) now what do you think Mazda is goin to do?? in Austraila they have an MS3 extreme that has 280 hp and 300ft/lbs so the new car im sure will have at least that much power. ive heard rumors it may also be a 5 cyl turbo.

well from what i heard FWD 280 hp 300tq revised engine band sapoably this one wont die after 5500 that last gen was like hitting a rev limiter one of the reasons i didnt buy it, handling wise i do not know to much and they said that there probly sticking with the 2.3 and not going with the 2.5 5 cylinder IDK why i think they should but nothing is final yet all just concepts and testing for now.
