AC is dead

So a few days ago I turned on my car and my AC blew out a burn smell and then died. AC still doesnt work and sometimes when I turn on the car the radio wont have any sound. Another thing is that the info button doesnt work or the back button on the steering wheel. Anyone ever had this problem? Im taking the car in tommorrow to the dealer

hmmm... my stereo wont have any sound when i turn on my car. it happens every time i start the car. i just turn it off then back on real quick and its just fine. i figuired it was just the way it work. my ac seems to work most of the time. though we have had a few days of 100+ degrees here and when the ac is on high i noticed is sounds and feels like the fan will kick down to low for a few seconds then kick back to high. doesnt bother me to much so i havent taken it in.

the burnt smell and some of the buttons not working kinda sounds like maybe bad wiring? does the heat still blow out? maybe its not the ac but just the fan itself?

Sounds like the fan has a short in the wiring. Maybe even a short in a harness somewhere to cause the buttons on the steeringwheel to stop working. But don't quote me on that one cause I don't know if the wires even run close to each other.

blower motor resister is burned out or the blower motor is bad. resistor is cheap, blower is kind of expensive.

Its their process of elimination to fix it cheaply. They see a blown fuse and replace it hoping that will work, but they fail to figure out why it blew in the first place

This will be in the engine bay 99% of the time

There's a high and low side to the system. You charge it through the LOW side.

Never the high side.

Overcharging will yield you the same results as having no freon

This.

and remember, your LOW SIDE is the bigger fitting and always located on the suction side of the system

and in all honesty, if you don't even know where to charge the freon, or where it's located for that matter

then you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

A/C systems are delicate and require critical steps and processes or you can do more damage than good.
