Aftermarket Shifter
Like mentioned the short throw shifters usually increase effort compared to stock and may not increase accuracy or alter gear engagement, so if the shift knob is bugging you then you might try replacing that first. The only shifting issue I've seen on mine is that it didn't like going into 5th a couple times but haven't had any problems since putting a few hundred more miles on the car.
And if you think torque steer is bad in the new SS you must not drive many front drivers. There's quite a few naturally aspirated cars I've driven/owned that are by orders of magnitude worse than the Cobalt.
For a front driver the shifter isn't that bad and there are way worse ones out there. You should sample this trans in the older Saab 9000's where it started off life a couple decades ago if you want a comparison of how much it's been improved over the years. The cable and routing design as well as the shift selection portion of the trans also play a big part in how the "shifter" feels, so if you decide to swap out only the shifter hardware don't be surprised if it still doesn't feel like a direct, linkage actuated rear drive transmission.

And as far as the shifter goes it is the shifter not the gear box that I don't like. I have over 1000 mies on the car and I haven't missed a shift and I have done some very hard accelerations and banged the gears on....well lets just say alot but it's the feel of shifter I don't like.
Thanks, the hurst looks more like what I like.
This is what I'm used to driving.

it shortens it some nothing drastic though. It was enough that I have to get used to the location of the gears again. I just think the shifts feel more solid because the shifter is all metal and the stock one is cheap plastic...
Either way IMO a billit aluminum shifter is better than a plastic one any day of the week. I love my Hurst shifter and if I were to switch to a turbo Balt I would definately be putting one in. The overall feel of the shifter is way better then the stocker. From the way the shifts feel to the way the shifter feels in my hand. Even if it didn't shorten the throw I would still give it a 10 ot of 10 when compared to stock.
