another 4 grand in warranty work
another 4 grand in warranty work
So not long ago due to the rev limiter not being active on my car from an installation of the gm stage 1 kit when i bought it used 3 months ago i had alot of head work done on my cobalt after owning it for 500 miles. Well last week it went back into the shop due to a loud ticking and the sound of an exhaust leak and hesitation but no engine light. Turns out the GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC who fixed the car forgot to put back on exhaust gaskets and double threaded the manifold bolts when putting the car back together. The turbo was loose and so was the manifold, one bolt was missing and another was broke of inside and a bolt half way out. They also found a crack in my turbo.....so 21,000 miles, new head, new manifold and new turbo charger. All under bumper to bumper and all damage due to mechanics not reliability of the car. So far 6 grand in warranty work and bout to make my 3rd car payment.
Sadly this is NEARLY every Chevy dealer I've experienced with my car. I had one dealer who never knew they had swapped to turbo. It's not that the guys are incompetent for the most part it's just they seriously fixing your car from GM documents since most have never worked in your car. I wish they had LNF training or something.
I ran into a situation with 2003 Cobra I had. There weren't any mechanics in my area that knew how to work on that newer style of Cobra, so the work they did was substandard. The car had to go back in several times until they got their feet wet. You have to understand that Chevrolet has never had a turbo-car and some of the GM mechanics are still getting used to it.
Maybe they should have the turbo-diesel truck guys working on them.

Hey man, I'm Aldo in the Chicagoland area. I know a few really good ones who have done work on my cars and have never had an issue and work very quickly. Let me know if you're interested in seeing the places.
****... I don't have a warranty on my car, so if it were to happen to me...
**** that. I don't even want to think about it!
Sorry that happened to you, OP. I know for a fact that the Cobalt SS can be a very reliable car, but I guess it all depends on the mechanic you take it to.

Bushman – sorry to hear about the bad experience you had at this dealership. If you’d like me to set up a dealership complaint case for you, feel free to send me a PM.

Point of interest: You don't HAVE to take your car to a Chevy dealership. Any GM dealership can honor the warranty on your vehicle short of SAAB dealers.
Try and find a dealership that absorbed a Saturn dealer or had a Pontiac brand on site. The techs there have likely worked on the LNF before in the Sky Redline and Solstice GXP.

just saying
That's more like a "Gentleman's agreement." I've seen it play out otherwise more times than I can count.
