Another hold up on orders

I ordered a 09 White Cobalt SS, with all the options including the RPD on November 15. The dealer guessed that I would receive the car at the end of December. I called them a couple of days ago to just check to see what is going on with the order. The sales guy says he talked to his manager and the manager said there is a hold up on all Cobalt SS's because of something to do with the bluetooth. He guessed that there are too many orders and not enough radios or something like that. He also said the restraint has been in affect for a week or two. So by guessing it is going to take another 2 weeks for the restaint to be lifted and another 3 weeks to get the car I would be seeing this car till february. So they located another car in the area of the same kind with only the exception of the RPD to come to find out from this website that for the dealer to install the RPD its going to cost about 650-700 plus installation which is B.S. since the option is only $295, I wont find out true price till monday when parts department is in. Just figured I would let everyone know about the hold up and vent a little.

Wait!

I would wait a reasonable time to get what you ordered or accept from stock. Constraints are a common issue with ALL manufacturers, especially with new or limited low production options. Dealer installed options of a major nature such as the RPD would not be acceptable to me nor would I be interest in them attemping that. It IS common to pay a higher price to dealer install an "option" than installed at the factory. Sorry you have to wait. Lookat the bright side. You will not have to pay personal property tax for the 2008 calender year because you owned it 2 weeks before the new year started. That alone is a big savings.

This might have more to do with it above everything else: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...98#post3204198

I am sorry to hear what has happened. Unfortunately it was the same thing for all of us who had ordered 08's as well. I personally learned that the dealership will do what it can for your business, but GM will not. Unless the dealership you are working with is hurting enough, they will make you wait. Another dealership may have the car, but (as I learned this past summer) they do not have to give it to another dealer. Any car that is 'in demand' does not have to be traded to another dealer so that they can make a sale. I actually ended up trading dealers in the end do to this. Luckily I ended up with a great dealer regardless, but still it was on me to travel the extra 45 minutes to secure the car.

I'd wait for what you want. You'll be kicking yourself for the next several years if you don't...

I would love to wait it out, except my car died on me thats why I decided to buy a new car and in the mean time I am driving my works truck. If my other car worked then I would wait it out. The thing about waiting it out, also makes me think it could take longer because lordstown is dropping their third shift in february so I might not even get it then. So waiting possibly 4+ months for me is not worth it, when I can get something that is what I want except I need the dealer to install the RPD for extra cost.

Why wouldn't you consider the dealer installing the RPD? It doesnt seem extremely major, they have to remove the dash and switch out wiring harnesses, and swap a pillars.

Yeah just remove the dash, take out your current dash harness and install a new $300+(last I checked) dash harness. Simple

yeah probably 3+hours of dealer labor rates too $$$

simply put, you would be lucky to have it done at the cost of parts.

I have looked into how they operate, RPD is high speed serial data, gauge is just a signal. --anyone with access to SI can verify this.

Youd be lucky to get it done for 3 hours I think. The RPD is most definitely on the high speed GMALN network.

Believe me I'm not saying its simple, Im just saying its not rocket science. I figure its gonna run about a grand just to get it dealer installed so Im definitly going to look for another with that option first. It just seems like everyone that they find close to what I want is either the wrong interior color or it doesnt have an RPD . So I'm stuck with something that I have to change.

i ordered mine on dec 4 and the dealer told me not to expcet it till like may or june due to the january shutdown and the shift reduction and the limited production numbers i am fine with that tho because i don't want it for the winter anyway... i also ordered the RPD and i hope i get it but i am doubting it because i am from canada and i hear their not available here... but we will see what happens ...

Well I didnt want to jinx it so I didnt say nothing, but my sales guy found me my exact car except for the high rise wing a couple of days ago. I took it home today, the car was over a hundred miles away. Im kinda liking the low profile spoiler so not having the high rise doesnt really bother me. All everyone kept talking about was the RPD, and how cool it was and all the things it shows. The car is definetly worth the wait if your waiting for it.
