Any precautions for jacking up '09 SS Sedan?

Well at lunch today, caught a patch of black ice going around a turn at like 5-10 mph and into a snow bank. Didn't have any concern since I was moving slow. Get on the highway and the steering wheel and car start shaking. Thinking it's a bent rim, but wanted to jack it up and check it out before taking it anywhere for service. Any special precautions for jacking it up, so I don't wreck anything?

Thanks

Troy

Just be very careful of where you jack it up; the unibody can fold under the weight of the car if you don't use a well supported area. Check this thread by Halfcent on how to jack it up:

How-To Jack up the Car

In addition, there's a thread kicking somewhere about using the control arm mounts on the front if you're only doing one wheel at a time. These are what I used to swap out my summers for my winters and it's a very robust area as well. There's pictures of them from Zinner in this thread:

Other Jack Points

Hope that helps .

Seen that a million times at the dealership (fix their PC's and hang out with the service manager) . Snow gets packed in the wheel and turns to ice .... throws off the balance .

i agree, don't have to jack it up, just look at the rims to see if ice is on them.

Thanks for pointing that out, that's what it was. I just assumed it was caused by a bent rim. Got on the highway this morning and everything was fine.

And thanks to everyone else for all the replies, I will definitely use the suggestions and instructions for future reference.
