automatic Trans LNF SS
Anyone see this happening? (Perhaps only for the 4 door TC/SS)
I think it will because the HHR has it.
I can't see GM certifying LNF/4 speed auto just for the HHR-SS. Spreading out that cost would be a good move. I just wish we had the 6 speed auto with paddle shifters.

Currently on the GM Powertrain no automatic Trans is listed for the LNF Cobalt.
We have not seen a peep about the 4-door LNF yet other then it will come after the coupe, so I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Look at his signature, he HAD a 5-speed...
Personally the only way i would bother to get a ss/tc would be for a 4-door automatic... If i wanted an F/I 5-speed Cobalt i would just save my money and TC my 2.4 that i have now.

I'm sure it will be released in 4 door automatic just like the HHR SS. Having the car in automatic, like it or not, opens it up to a whole other market of potential sales.

It's good and bad. Good in that with that much more market, Vendors are more likely to come out with performance upgrades
Bad in that you think your the **** driving around in your 2009 SS/TC, and then grandma pulls up beside you in one that's the same color.

Automatic transmissioned boosted cars use boost more effectivly then manual transmissioned boosted cars due to the faster shifts between ears. It allows for the boost levels to stay higher then drop to zero and need to be pumped back up again. It'd sure be nice if GM did this.

The lease is up on my 05 LS next spring and I'm crossing my fingers that an automatic turbo will be available. The lack of an automatic SS/SC is what prevented me from getting it back in 2005...

On the other hand, the fact that the HHR SS will have an Auto option does mean they have parts readily available which can be swapped directly into the ss/tc with little work.
The major issue is really weather they will want to offer an auto option. They are offering the auto in the HHR because the HHR is more of a commuter car on steroids. The ss/tc is really designed to be a peppy fun-to-drive little car. They are for different crowds.

Interesting
interesting question. I had previously thought they would do this too. I am hoping that they don't though. I mean, it IS about convenience, but I personally think they should keep the performance cars in the hands of the people who know how to drive them and are car enthusiasts/at least know how to drive stick. I personally hated driving my auto 2.2L, great car, wonderful to drive, but boring and very limiting. I say they only keep it manual. I would hate to come to a stop light to see an SS/TC, and want to talk or something, only to have it be some spoiled girl or some body who doens't take care of it and just drives it.
I agree with this. I kind of like it only manual, makes people who have it, you know they're usually enthusiasts and not just driving it to drive it.
This is truth, I'd prefer manual though, but yeah auto keeps your boost up.
You effectively double your market that way. Alot of people will want the car, but won't want to mess with a manual.

GXP Solstice automatic is faster than the manual.......it advertised the "no lift" marking hype also at the start for the manual.
Facts are facts manual you have to let off the gas to shift, boost drops, no electronics are going to change that completely
Personally though I believe the Cobalt should only be a manual and IF GM does automatic it needs to be something like in the G6(6spd shifter),........and if it wasn't so damn exspensive DSG for automatic(i mean the C7 vette will have it so they are already looking into it etc...)
Personally I'd love to have a 6spd manual, so it would be great for cruising, or well to put it simple "fun driving"
I have a 2.4L Cobalt, and soon as weather gets bad enought o get out the truck for winter I'll be doing a hahn turbo......but it's still an automatic I had alot more fun even IN stop and go traffic(downtown Atlanta, 6days a week, 3-4x a day etc...)in my 6spd GTi 1.8Turbo but it was a money pit with TON of issues........not one problem with ANY Chevrolet to date

It would be way better if it was a 6 spd manual instead of a 5 spd for cruising.
Boost drop on the manual should not be too bad with this car because of the small turbo, it will still be in boost at the lower RPM's. That is if you can shift reasonably fast.
I don't see the problem with an Auto version of the LNF cobalt. I personally don't want one, but many do. Better for all if more are sold.
