I pref a manual, but due to sooo much damn highway every single day (3+ hours, 7 days a week) i said screw that, id kill myself if i had to manual it all that time every day. Would be nice for those that have this issue too, but i dont see it happening. Just a gut feeling i guess.

I love my SS/SC enough to deal with its manual transmission. however, had it been offered with an automatic tranny i most likely would have gotten that option. buyer statistics show more people buy automatics. the unforgiving 5 speed turned alot of people away from the ss/sc, so if GM wants to sell more of the ss/tc, they will offer automatic. but they may want to keep it a manual-only car like the cough*civicSi*cough. nobody will know until they hit the dealers.

I hope they do an auto 2.0 turbo. Stop n go around my area sucks for a stick, thats why I got my auto balt when I traded in. Plus, I should be outta basic and almost done with tech school when this car comes out, so I should have enough save for a nice down payment if they do make an auto.

Meh... talk about living in traffic. I live right outside Los Angeles. The 405 freeway is one of the busiest freeways in the states; not to mention all the hills, when there is stop n go traffic.

Maybe it's cause I started off in an automatic as a first car... Driving a stick really gives you so much more enjoyment; stick is definately for the car enthusiast. I Don't think I'll ever switch back; unless I purchased a SUV... then that would just be silly

Exactly right. If Cobalt SS/TC sales double or triple by having an automatic available, it'll benefit ALL of us by making the Cobalt community much more attractive to the aftermarket manufacturers. Sales numbers FTW!

Say what you will about it, an automatic transmission will surely help the aftermarket for the LNF Cobalt. Even if it increases sales only 20-30%, thats a significant increase in owners, and also an increase in people willing to buy performance parts. Makes it just that much easier to get the X amount of people you need for group buys.

I would prefer a manual, though i would have to learn how to drive it, where I live I don't have to fight with bad traffic except for the occasional wreck on I-10 or hurricane evacuation so auto isn't a big need for me *shrugs* I just want the feeling of ripping through gears

Perfect correlation:

SRT-4 = manual only
PT Cruiser GT = manual standard, but option for an automatic......

I don't think we'll see an automatic SS/SC and personally I hope we don't.

I say soon GM will dive head first into the DSG setups
Anyone driven the new Equinox Sport, Torrent GXP, Malibu, or G6 GXP? all have the 6sp auto.........very nice for those of us that spend 3+ hrs a day in traffic to make a living.

alleycat58..... Dodge doesn't offer auto in the SRT-4, cause the only auto they have that can handle the power is used on the other SRTs which are MUCH larger. There was a auto SRT4 caliber at one of the auto shows, tech savies at the show all said it would raise the cost above 30grand to sell with the car.

automatics are usually faster with turbo'd cars, you stay in boost, you don't shift etc... biggest fault is most TCMs are tuned for the 60+ year olds
I have a Vector Tune in my Trailblazer SS, and it went from BLAH, to feeling like it manually shifts now. I can break the tires loose from 2nd into 3rd, idiots that have no common sense think it's a manual in the TB SS lol

One advantage of an auto is you can more effectively spool the turbo for launch by brake torqueing than reving a manual with the clutch in.

autos maybe good for drag racing but are **** for autox or road racing....and a DSG is nothing but a glorified auto, u still have to up or downshift one gear at a time

auto

A car with an automatic is easier to sell. I would not say that a DSG is a glorified auto ,since it is NOT an automatic.

^it has no clutch and it shifts automatically if u let it.....sounds like one to me, also why do companies offer in place of an standard auto and not in place of a manual

don't get me wrong i think new SS should have a manual and a DSG option...im just not that impressed with current DSG technology

Automatic trans cars are easier to sell then manual transmissioned cars are. Face it people are lazy *****! Shifting a trans requiers effort, more effort then the majority of people these days are willing to exert. That and the fact that most people don't know how to drive a manual transmissioned car. To make a car ONLY a 5 spd KILLS its sales potential. I believe that an automatic SHOULD be an option for the turboed Balts only cause it makes good business sence.

If you don't like to shift, maybe a Buick is more your speed. I dont care if I'm in stop and go, on the freeway or whatever, I have to have a manual.

I would love to see a 5 speed 4 door cobalt ss/tc. I like my auto but 5 speeds and 4 doors = sleeper and I like my sleepers better.

What do you mean they are diving in already? Do tell lol I've heard the Vette will have DSG but nothing else..well the XLR but blah to those too out of my budget

DSG is neither auto or manual(it's best of both basically) and anyone not impressed with them.....think you can shift better? or just feel the downshifts are not controlled?(this is where i am on DSG, but i laugh at anyone thinks they shift faster)

there is an Auto Solstice on the auto X circuit and one on the drift circuit, both are doing very very well...

And ask anyone you got to offer automatic and manual to make the sales figures
look at the new Evo, WRX....both have automatics.....both need the sales figures
compare the sales figures of any vehicle with manual and automatic and see how much of a difference offering automatic makes, compared to not offering one.....

The Sky Line is offered with an LNF engine and an automatic trans. But with an auto this engine gets downgraded to 250 hp and 222 ft-lbs.

DSG has dual clutches... and rev matches shifts for you... ive driven quite a few VWs and its pretty sweet, but after about 10 mins it gets old . stick FTMFW.... having 2 options will sell more cars but unfortunately bring non enthusiasts to a car such as the cobalt SS/TC

so what there are plenty of non enthusiast driving exotic sports cars, or even your GT500 and Z06......

I just dont get why people make arguments over something that truly does not effect them
if your issue is seeing someone pull up in a Cobalt like yours and them being old......well then maybe you should of looked into a different setup period

I do agree the DSG gets old and it doesnt do well on downshifts, nor is it a great feature on elevation changing twisty roads
