Back breaks causing a clunk?
The back breaks used to make a clunk-like noise but at first it only did it when it was raining or right after. It would stop doing it when I put the e-brake up about 3 clicks and would not make a sound for a couple miles after releasing the brake. It started doing it when it was wet or dry out but only mostly over bumps then constantly. It got annoying so I just now replaced pads and rotors. I took it for a couple miles and didn't hear a sound and it stopped a lot better. My question about this is would bad back breaks with these symptoms cause a clunk or should I look else where? I also just replace my CAB's, end links and shocks and struts along with the front brakes. I'll know for sure on my drive to work in the morning if the noise is for sure gone.
Why would your "back breaking" effect anything with the pads, rotors and chassis components on your car?? Go see a doctor bud!!
Sorry, anyways. It sounds like the caliper may have somehow loosened up on your rear BRAKES, or the stud holes in the rotors could have possibly become oblong which caused the rotor to move lightly when BRAKING in either direction..

Right, but you said after you replaced everything the clunking went away correct? That's at least what I took from your op.

No, I still had the one in back after doing CAB's, end links and shocks/struts. I had the noise in back and needed to replace the brakes any way. What I'm asking is if this noise really could have just been the brakes or if there was something in the rear that goes out that anyone else has had experience with. There was never a grinding noise but a small amount of uneven wear on the pads and the rotors looked like an old vinyl record with some pretty big grooves.
Actually back when I was under warranty I had the same clunk noise I thought for sure it was strut mounts and dealer sAid no it was rear brakes I was sketchy but it was free warranty work and they did something. Picked the car up and never had that noise again so I think your having same issue I don't remember exactly what they did though...

Didn't do anything special just new pads and rotors. Didn't make a noise at all today. I was pretty suprised that new brakes fixed the noise but I'm happy I don't have to hear it anymore.
ive had my sedan in for a clunk in the rear..turns out a pin of some sort was never installed correctly on the rear brakes. i think it was a pin,i cant remember though..it was 2 years ago.
