Best quality 'blank' rear rotors?

I'm going to be replacing the rear brake pads and rotors soon. I'd like to see if I can find a good set of blank (not drilled or slotted) rotors, since I'd like them to match the smooth look of the front rotors. What are some good brands to look at? Anything out there better than the normal OEM replacement that someone like crate engine depot would have?

Are people seeing any issues with grooving on new blank rotors and pads? If that's the case I'd entertain slotted rotors to clear debris from the pads. I'll also be lubing the slide pins to make sure the pads don't wear prematurely (unlike my current set)

As for pads I was thinking about getting some Hawks. I had them on my previous car and they seemed good. Just looking for a daily driving pad, but with some good bite that's not too bad on making brake dust. If you know of something better though let me know. I'm not looking for race pads or anything that's going to make a lot of noise, just something good for around town.

You ask just about anyone at my local track and Hawk is the first thing they talk about with their brake pads. I am still factory I have no experience with Hawk YET but the plan to change them is coming in about a month or so. I will be going with drilled rotors because of gassing at high temps. My brakes get so hot at the track they glow, smoke and weep brake fluid after about 25 laps, yet I have never changed them and they don't feel any worse now than new other than rotor scoring and wear. I probably am the biggest abuser of brakes on this site that is still using factory brakes all the way around, but my days are numbered she's making a lot of noise in the back these last few weeks. I'll get back to you about it if you plan to wait a while yet. I should tell you that I drive it as fast as I can as deep as I can before abruptly slamming on the brakes and winging it around the turn, this method works GREAT on FWD cars to get the weight all over the front end in a turn.

Don't get drilled. They will crack, badly, on track.

OP, I'm planning on sticking with the stock rotors. They're coated and reasonably cheap.

I really don't care for slots, since they tend to turn into blanks at high temp, and drilled is just an accident waiting to happen.

How do slotted rotors turn into blanks at the track? Mind explaining that one?

what brand were they?

and does anyone else have any negative feedback on slotted rotors such as this guy or wangspeed? or does it really depend on your braking environment as to if they will clog up?

i planned on buying slotted for my car as just a daily driver rotor with hawk hps as the pad, would these see excessive buildup from just street use with very infrequent hard stops? or would hawk ceramics cause less buildup because of less thermal breakdown?

any help would be appreciated. thanks!

That sounds more like a pad issue, that's a lot of dusting off if they would fill the slots in 2 days.

those appear to be rear rotors though, don't they see less heat and therefore use as a result anyway?, also what brand are they? R1?

Slotted rotors that get hot, will fill the slots with melted rotor slag, or pad crud. It's possible this could happen even at street temps. It's somewhat pad dependent. Rears may not fill up, but still a waste, imo.

so youre saying just get blanks for the front then?

would you say that blanks have a higher tendency to warp than slotted? cause i had my stock rotors warp to **** after one hard highway speed stop. i cant deal with that again. lol.

Yeah, just get blanks for the fronts.

No, your rotors didn't warp, they just have an uneven distribution of pad material on the rotor. I bet they were perfectly salvageable.

well theyre still on until i order new ones lol. is there any way to redistribute pad material on the rotor without having to have them turned down? lol

You can try scuffing them with coarse sandpaper, from the center outwards, or just try to re-bed the pads and rotors by slowing down moderately hard from 60 - 10 mph, a few times in a row.

you know what i think youre right. i noticed that after some hard braking they dont seem to shake as much. i still get the steering column shimmy but thats just a defect to begin with. thanks much for your help man.

There should be no shimmy at all. I see from your sig that you swapped springs. Make sure that the tab of the spring hat is facing in towards the engine.

josh... no i didnt install them wrong they had instructions.. and were rotora rotors quite expensive over 100cad each.. pads were ceramic resbestos pads also not cheap.. dry days didnt do it as much but one rain storm and every slot was clogged and water would trap in the slots and i had no brakes(peddal to the floor no stopping) when not used often in rain storms.. really scary.. for me what they tell you about the slots clearing depris off rotors and better braking on wet days because they slots take away water from pads is bull... it gives water a place to go under the pad and makes the pad wet again.. again just my experience...
