I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the LNF block uses any freeze plugs which is generally where a block heater would be located. I mean you could go crazy and get a tank style heater which heats and circulates warm coolant throughout the motor, but they tend to also restrict coolant flow so that probably wouldn't be the wisest idea, although an option if absolutely needed for whatever reason. There might be other options out there, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but those are the 2 types that I'm fully aware of.

Proof or ban. I've always thought these cars would benefit from having one.

I got told it wasn't possible to fit one to these cars by my dealer... I didn't really push the issue since the car runs sythentic. The only time it ever struggled to start last winter was when it was -35C out pre-windchill... a.k.a. really ******* cold. Even then, it still fired, it just wasn't pretty

Move to Arizona where it never drops below 40F in the dead of winter. That'll heat your block up fine

But seriously, my dad got something for his TDI Golf. I think he said it was for airplanes. He'd plug it in when he got home and a timer would kick on a few hours before he took off for work. This was in Utah where it does get cold btw.

I'm not following this- which dealer is full of it?

Is your block heater

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_t...t_block_heater

like this? Where is yours installed?

Perhaps we could get the kind that fit inline in the lower radiator hose. I haven't looked for my lower radiator hose yet, it might be in the trunk with the ignition coil and spark plugs that I also can't find...

Interesting. Any pics or links of something comparable? I've never heard of this heating solution.

Edit: And what was the price?

Seriously...stop saying you have one and prove it to us. I really think they are an awesome idea..especially for these cars because they run like a giant pile of dog **** on a cold start. So please..if you do have one...post up pics (if possible) and a price and who installed it.

It was an $85 option and they charged another $110 to put it in. I didn't pay a dime though, they threw it in with the purchase. I said to the salesman, I realize these cars are summer oriented cars but they should have a block heater in them anyways. He says, " You don't need a block heater". With a -30 if not colder on average winter every year, I do need a block heater. It helped out big time this past winter, the car didn't like the winter but the block heater made for better cold starts and faster heating. The part number is GM PART # 12499853. It's a bummer I've gotta drive it in the winter, but I got it rust checked when I bought it last year and the car still looks brand new and I only drove it when it was really cold out so the streets were dry. Here's a tip for all you guys in order to keep the exhaust tips looking good use NEVERDULL. I use it everytime I go to the car wash and the tip is still as shiny as the day I got the car.

I bought my 09 ss/tc in May and it didn't have a block heater (not a option) Some people said they wouldn't fit because of the turbo, others said you don't need one.Where I live it gets cold so I wanted one.I bought one from a local parts store. He said it fits 05-09 2.0.I got it home and tried to put it on.Not alot of room down there. This block heater bolts to a boss on the side of the block. So I tried to put it in and it wouldn't fit,it was hitting the exhuast manifold. The block heater is basically a big alum block with a element coming out of the side further from the exhuast manifold.I decided that the only way to fit it was to grind down a bit of the alum of the block heater where it was hitting the manifold. So I ground a bit and tried it ground some more till it fit(pain in the ass putting it in there and taking it out)The block heater is made by phillips & Temro part #3400020 not sure if this company sells in the US or not. Here are some pics.
