2011-02-01_21-38-25_307.mp4 video by ff_ace - Photobucket

the other video is taking sometime to upload so i will get that up later. but this thing pulls hard all the way to redline. he even let me drive it a couple times and i had the opportunity to run a STI and from what i saw he had at least a tune and exhaust. we took off from a dig boost was instant in 2nd from what i felt then i missed 3rd yes i know i fail at driving he was giving me **** about it the rest of the night. but its a great setup up and byt did a good job getting him dialed in. now its time to hit the dyno

Can a k04 that needs rebuilt be used as a core exchange?

Yes. As long as the housing and all its exterior parts are good. The internals all get tossed out anyways

Though I'm pretty sure the 2871R housing is goign to be to big to back in the same route , lol.

Question though, what is everyone doing with the plug/sensor that is on the factory turbo?

Are you guys leaving it unhooked or re-routing the vacuum lines some how on the aftermarket turbo and re-using the plug/sensor?

Everything else I now how to route or hook up for the aftermarket turbo, but I don't remember reading anywhere or seeing a diagram showing what to do with the sensor/plug in the turbo itself.
I think we used it but I'll have to double check where and how. 1LowLS or FF_ace might remember off the top of their heads. Also, you'll have to bend the oil/coolant lines when you want to put the new turbo on. They fit with a little bit of manly touch (pure force) :-)

Sure, here is a pic of the old and new turbo so you can see how we connected the vacuum lines across. However, make sure that you rotate the WG can 180degrees (which wasn't done in this pic). As for the plug/sensor, I'll have to wait until after work so that I can try to snap a pic of that.

Top port. Do not cap the side port or you won't be able to make boost which is never any fun

Brian seems to think we should hit 400whp on our application.
here's the dyno of the kappa that made 371whp which was tuned by DDM

power went up fast.....but falls down quickly as well.......

That is on 93 octane, no meth/water, intercooler, high flow cat, exhaust and an intake

That dyno graph looks like they were tuning with peak numbers only in mind, and not "area under the curve". I'm willing to bet that can be improved a whole lot.

Either that, or we've got exhaust housing restriction issues we're bumping into on the GT2871. I wouldn't think that would be the case though, with the larger wheel and enlarged housing.

One thing that is nice is that you can definately see the RPM window where it spools up. I imagine that could shift based on timing and cam settings though too.

Or they are way overspinning or lacking fuel up top. It dies hard at 6k where the stock fuel pressure tables taper off.

200whp and 150wtq at redline... Thats far worse then a stock turbo car.

Stock intercooler? Aftermarket IC pipes? Hi flow cat or straight DP? What size exhaust?

Going to go out and get my LNF Mitsubishi K04 (I got last fall) and put it next to my LNF BW K04 and post up pics (in a new thread) some time later to give an idea what the differences are.

The car is still exiting through a 2.5" downpipe, looking forward to the next install with a 3" downpipe. Still has over 50whp improvement at 5K and 35whp improvement at 7K over the stock turbo through the 2.5" downpipe, definitely a better upgrade than the big wheel option. Boost pressure did not go down during the run and was a constant 26-27 during the run.

the only thing we changed between those runs is the turbo and added a BOV since the 2871 does not have an integrated bypass like the factory turbo.

That run was at 26-27psi
