Break-in question

Hey guys,

So the break-in specifies not to drive any constant speed, slow or fast. My issue is that I need to take a long highway drive tomorrow and I only have 550km (approx. 350mi) on the car.

Why does it say this? Is it so that for the length of the break-in period the car sees a good range of speeds/RPM? My thinking is that if this is the case, I'll just drive normally with the cruise control on and baby the car for a couple hundred kilometers longer.

However, is there another reason? I'm dead-set on breaking the car in gently and if it causes any harm to use the cruise control (it's about a 240mi drive) I'll spend most of it fluctuating speed, going from 5th into 4th, taking random off ramps, etc.

Any thoughts?

They want you to vary RPMs, use different gears, etc etc. While it's breaking in, they don't want it in the same (5th) gear the entire break in. If that were the case, you won't have broken in the transmission much at all. I think as long as you row through the gears periodically, you won't have much of a prob.. Hell, I don't really buy half the break-in stuff anyways.

the break in seats a bunch of stuff so staying at a constant speed wears grooves causing less power down the road. i took a high way trip when i was breaking mine in, just vary your speeds and downshift and all that and you'll be fine.
