Burning Clutch using "Launch Control"

Anybody else Smell a Burning clutch while using the Launch Conrol Feature. I know It really doesnt work that well but I see the videos on Youtube where they ping it off the 4800 rpm then let the clutch go. I try the same thing and All I get is Wheelspin and Burning clutch Smell.

Why??

its a known fact the RPM limiter is set far too high on the T/c, its great if you are on slicks at a track, but thats about it.

OP, you probably have worn out your clutch pre-maturely due to driving habits/ skill. Do you ride the clutch when releasing it? Is the T/C your first standard car?

don't use launch control. it will burn your clutch.
gms attempt at it was a waste, and if you're going to launch, launch around 2-3k depending on track.

All I know is if I would try it once and see the results being:

1) tires burn uselessly
2) premature clutch wear

I wouldn't do it again after the 1st try ..

Any time I've played with launch control I haven't burned the clutch or seen excessive wheel spin. You shouldn't get a lot of wheel spin since it's designed to limit it. You don't side step the clutch, but you do want to release it quickly. If you think you're burning it, then you're likely letting it out too slow. Keep in mind that the clutch engages close to the top of pedal travel, so you may also be used to cars where the clutch engages earlier. Try focusing on releasing the clutch and placing your foot on the dead pedal in one motion.

I don't believe I ride it. I maybe releasing the clutch to slow, just dropping the clutch from high rpm just doesn't seem like a good idea though. Not my first 5 speed but my last car was a focus with half the power so I probably need to relearn how to drive this car.

You sure it's the clutch you're smelling and not the tires? To the truly uninitiated they might smell the same. Try this. Spin the tires unmercifully by any means available, jump out of the car quickly and smell the tires. You'll never mistake the smell of burning rubber again. Seriously!!

Yea. I think that this guy is just slipping the clutch (not letting it out fast enough) and that's why he smells clutch.....

If you use LC properly you shouldn't smell burning clutch. If you are, you're slipping it too much; it's a controlled release, not a dump, not a slip. If you dump it, you might want to prepare for new axles depending on track prep. If you're smelling burning clutch repeatedly you might want to set aside $1500+ for a clutch job, or quit using it or you'll burn your clutch out in absolutely no time.

The feature isn't useless it works well now that I got rid of the **** stock tires, these ones actually want to grab, the stockers want to just smoke away all day long and then randomly decide they should function as a tire and not a smoke show. Those saying it's useless do realise what that mode causes the ECM to do....right???

Would a tuner be able to adjust the rev limiter in LC mode?

I don't see why not; Term/BYT should be able to answer that though if they happen to see this thread.

I don't know if you could edit the stock launch control rpm limit. You would need a WOT box, no?

If they've unlocked the ECM/PCM it should simply be an entry in a table I would think? I could definitely be wrong but I thought all rev limits were controlled by the ECM based on the mode the car is in?

Launch control RPM's aren't in a given table HP Tuners has opened up, but you can limit your RPM's any time in neutral or the clutch is depressed afaik, though I never tried it.

Since tuned I don't use it or the NLS feature. No need to grenade the trans here.
