Clutch problems with reverse.
Clutch problems with reverse.
i have noticed that every once in a while (this has happened i think three times) that when i put my car into reverse, after some stop and go traffic around town, it 'pops' like i let go of the clutch. The clutch is fully pressed and it doesn't move or stall, it just makes a loud noise and jumps about an inch. also, the RPMs don't change. any ideas to what's up?
I just got mine a few weeks ago. Its an 08, and I have noticed that somtimes with the clutch fully engaged it still grinds when getting put into reverse. This happens when I am backing out of a parking spot or my garage, so its not like I am moving at all. The brake is also applied when it happens. I don't know if thats what your having, but it sounds kind of like what is happening to me.

However I don't think I've ever had the problem the OP is describing. It sounds like the car is actually lurching backwards a bit when you shift?
sometimes the syncros do not align. so before going into reverse "wiggle" the shifter left to right several times then try to put it in reverse. i have had to do this to ALL my manual trans cars at one point or another. i hope nothing else is too serious with the trans....or, the cables are stretching and the trans is not engaging due to the stretched cables...

Are you all newbies to cable clutch systems? Sometimes ( not just in Reverse) the syncros ( for simplicity sake, cables) that are actually right below your shifter, get a little out of line. . go out of gear and double pump your clutch and then wiggle your shifter a bit while putting it in gear.
The sound you hear is not your clutch but your Shifter.
One thing to keep in mind for common sense's sake is this- Reverse is the TIGHTEST (smallest) gear we got. Pretty much compare it to 1st gear. Its not the same as throwing a sloppy shift up into 5th gear.
Once again, this isn't a clutch issue, rather a shift/cable issue.

There are no syncros for reverse, thats why it grinds. its normal for it to clunk or make noise going into reverse. The fix like someone above said is to not try and shift into reverse right away, push the clutch in and give it a couple seconds before you try and put it in
I had this happen on my 09 SS/TC. The problem isn't with the hydraulic clutch or the cable shifter. It's because you have to let the transmission internals slow down before shifting into reverse. Hold the clutch in, and wait like 1-2 seconds before going into reverse. It seems to be a problem with the F35/MU3. The TR-3650 in the Mustang GT doesn't have this issue with reverse.
p.s.i i know this isn't the right spot for this but does anyone know if the dealership can install a RPD on my 09 and what's the tampa thread?
When I'm having trouble going into reverse, I just put it in first, let out on the clutch a little and move the car forward an inch or two, then push the clutch back in and go back into reverse. Works every time.
Its happened to me too, except i started the car let it warm up for a min or two then went to put it in reverse and it happened....took it outta reverse then put it in same thing, on the third time tho it didnt happen.
that make sense, it happened when i had to back up in order to let someone out of their parking spot. thanks for all the help!
