Clutch Slippage after Tune?
Clutch Slippage after Tune?
Good evening guys. I've got a bit of an issue here. I got a 21psi Trifecta tune/GMS1 about 2 months ago (love it btw) but my clutch slips in 3rd and 4th gear when I punch it. It holds 1st and 2nd fine, but I dont feel like the stock clutch is handling the 320+ tq. Is this normal? I bought the car from an old guy with 12500 on it and have never had any issues with it until recently. Thanks for any help you guys can give
Well. say I'm accelerating from a stop light, just normally, and when I get to third I ease it to the floor and as soon as it hits 19-20 psi, it slips around 3500 and then holds to redline. Weird. Am I really going to have replace the clutch on a car with 55K miles? Thats ridiculous.
Id say normal, with my 22psi HpTune im making a little over 350 ft-lbs torque and when it is cold out ive noticed mine has slipped a couple times in 4th and 5th. Im procrastinating for the moment at getting a new clutch though, lol.
Funny you say you brought this up. I just got a tune this weekend and in 5th gear at like 2700rpm when i floor it it slips alittle....... but if im punching it 3000rpm or above in 3rd/4th its fine....1st and 2nd are fine too....
ps-there is only 11700 miles on this car lol

Dont punch on it until you are above 3500rpm in 3-5th gear. You are just asking for clutch slip then. 5th gear is more of an overdrive than a pulling gear or whatever you want to call it
I also learned the hardway before I got on here and asked questions. This was my first turbod cars and all the rules that come with them take a while to learn, by the time you do its sometimes too late lol. Id love to upgrade my clutch but right now I can not afford it. I'll drive on it easy if I have to.
I usually start off slow and then mash on it and it takes off. I love scaring passengers ha ha

I had to replace my clutch at around 40k, which was also about a month after I actually started using my tune and power. You gotta pay to play.
Its all in driver mods. John Powell put a thread up listing everything not to do to help keep our stockers good. As in when sitting at a stop light put it in neutral rather than hold the clutch, etc.. I learned a lot. I bought my car used so I couldnt be in control of its previous life
Driver error isn't GM's fault. He upper the torque quite a bit and then is probably flooring it at low rpm's in high gears. The clutch would likely be fine if he wasn't beating on it. I make similar power with no problems. Many people make quite a bit more with no problems.
Yeah, the old guy was prob hard on the clutch and slipped it alot. The previous owner of my current car was hard on the clutch and it used to only slip in 5th and eventually went downhill from there as I put a more aggressive tune on it. My previous SS/TC had 24k miles on it with 19k of those with a Trifecta tune on it back when Vince had the infiniboost. Never once did the clutch slip and I was hard on that car, very hard. I am much easier on this one and have since upgraded to the Stage 4 Clutchmasters 6 Puck. Its a really nice clutch, I like the engagement of it, but a lot of people say the KY Stage 3 or the ZZP Stage 4 is the way to go.
