It holds 1st and 2nd fine, but I dont feel like the stock clutch is handling the 320+ tq. Is this normal? I bought the car from an old guy with 12500 on it and have never had any issues with it until recently. Thanks for any help you guys can give
I replaced mine around that time... But the weather has a lot to do with it. Wait till It's warmer and It should be okay. Or just replace it with a aftermarket one.

I have since upgraded to the Stage 4 Clutchmasters 6 Puck. Its a really nice clutch, I like the engagement of it, but a lot of people say the KY Stage 3 or the ZZP Stage 4 is the way to go.THIS WAS GOOD INFO EARLIER, BUT WHAT IS THE POWER RATING ON THOSE?
Anyways, all decent tuners can adjust the torque to protect the stock clutch, and that has been gone over many times here, so maybe you need to adjust the tune, or learn how to drive what you got....gl

Power ratings are on www.TurboTechRacing.com for the KY's. Read up on KY's and you will see why Sach's pressure plates, which other companies use are not the "best possible" pressure plate to use... KY only uses premium parts.

You have to drive a bit differently with the SS/TC's. I used to change gears early at low revs with my last vehicle and the clutch went forever. With the SS/TC you should wait for higher rpms to shift it will engage a lot better. Try it out and see.

The ratings claimed by all 3 are over 600ft lbs of torque at the flywheel.

I think its funny that all these people claim that I don't know how to drive my car. But I'm not getting into a **** fest because of other peoples' ignorance.

I don't punch it at low RPMs, because that's retarded. Its a 4-banger, not a big block V8.

Probably because a lot of people have a lot more torque than you without an issue on the stock clutch.

Either way you wanted opinions and you got them.

There will always be a few guys claiming to have a bazzion ft/lbs of torque with the stock cluck and have no trouble.

The fact remains, once you increase the power, the wimpy stock clutch can start being a problem. I never had an issue at 330 tq, but now at 345 tq, I had a little clutch slip on the dyno and once since then.

Advertised clutch ratings:

KY stage 1: 300 tq
KY stage 2: 365 tq
KY stage 3: 475 tq
KY stage 4: 500+ tq

ZZP stage 1: 250 tq
ZZP stage 2: 300 tq
ZZP stage 3: 400 tq
ZZP stage 4: 500 tq ($)
ZZP stage 4 plus: 550+ tq ($)

($) = expensive
NOTE: accuracy of claims cannot be scientifically validated.

ZZP doesn't make the 4 Plus anymore as they have increased the holding capacity of the 4 to greater than what you have. KY Clutch told James theres no reason their 6-Puck couldn't hold over 600ft lbs of torque. Clutchmasters advertises their Stage 4 to hold 150% more than stock. Assuming thats going by our stock 260ft lbs that the clutch is designed to hold, that clutch is rated at 637.5ft lbs. That is why I say claims.

Oh, they brought the 4 plus back. They didn't have it for a while there.

I knew exactly what you were talking about, for as long as I can remember looking at clutches their 4+ said that they don't carry anymore due to the 4 being redesigned to hold more power....

Moral of the story: don't punch it while in a high gear at a low rpm.

I'm not sure many would need the ZZP stage 4+, the feel of the stage 4 is so good we've done some many of them and I'm not sure I've ever seen one slip at any power level. It would be my choice having driven the cobalt for a while with it.

We've made over 600WHP without slipping on our stage 4 clutch. Not sure anyone else can make that claim...
