Cobalt start up question
A friend of mine told me that I shouldn't even begin driving until my cars turbo psi gauge reads -10 to -20 and I shouldn't WOT until my coolant is at 190 degree. So since I had 1000 miles (currently 6000) i've been hanging out in my car for like 10-15 minutes before I even go anywhere.
Is this something I should actually be doing on a cold start.
Also sometimes on a cold start it'll make a weird noise for a few seconds. What is that.

just to give you a lil info....your "turbo gauge is actully a type of vacum/boost guage.....when its at -10/-20 its in vacum.....has nothing to do with that.....as for waiting for your coolant temp to get to 190.....I somewhat agree.....depending on where in CO you are.....you have to let the engine warm up so the oil thins out so it will lubricate well...and since im guessing here.....im assuming that the turbo gets the oil from the engine.....190 is just the cars optimum running temp....I have an 06 SS/SC and live 5 min from the beach....i wait till about 60 and drive off....what kind of noise?.....hope it helps....

So you suggest I wait 60 seconds then take off and with WOT I definitely should wait until my coolant is at temp.
Edit
the noise is a grinding/scrapping/vibrating noise. It's hard to describe. it literally only lasts 2nd seconds and its a very rare thing. I can only remember 3 times it has happened

Let it warm up a minute or two until it comes out of cat warmup mode. This will be when the vac increases from -10 on cold start to -18 to -20 in/hg. Then drive moderately untill fully warmed up.

-20in/hg would indicate that cat warm up mode is done and i would say that genrally doesnt take longer than a minute. after that driveability increases significantly. i wouldnt drive until its completed that at least. and at least 150deg before doing anything agressive. the time it takes my car to roll out of the driveway in neutral usually does it. lol

every time I drive the car before it is out of the cat warm up cycle it drives like crap, boosts like crap, and sounds like crap, so just wait the 10 minutes it takes to warm up.
I know exactly what you mean....

My personal theory...? Winter gas.
Mine JUST recently started doing this again after it had completely disappeared all spring, summer, and fall. Winter blended gas, which most if not all gas stations in colder climates use from November through March or something like that. It has a lower vapor pressure, meaning it turns to vapor easier. My theory is that as the car sits a small amount of it turns to vapor inside of the high pressure pump. What you hear is a short burst of "cavitation" in the fuel pump because it's not designed to pump vapor, but liquid.
Just my thoughts after dealing with this before and doing a lot of research and talking to people.

If you have an LT and get this exactly noise... then I'm totally wrong and I guess I don't really know. LOL
