Subarus are not the best sounding engines and a boxer engine does not make that Subaru sound.... It's the sound of unequal length headers...
Not a good sound and not a great engine

His car is a total sleeper. When I first saw it I'm like "just another guy claiming mad hp... I bet I'll win" and I got smoked. He's really a friend of a friend. He loved the TC. At first he didn't know what to think of it but later on when we were parked and having beers he got into it and snooped around. He was really impressed. Although I lost he said he hadn't had someone hang with him like that in a long long time. I beat my other buddies 5.0 so I made up for the loss against the subie.. haha He was cocky too...
A cocky Mustang driver? You don't say? Don't know if I've ever seen one of those.

In +1. I finally had my chance to match an STI with intake/exhaust mods only, and after 40mph it was all academic; I'd pull a car on him at will, and much to his dismay the dry pavement grip was pretty much a draw, since neither one of us were going to go 10/10ths around the turns . Still thought his car looked far better than my sedan, though. He clearly had the style points.

Amen! The Japanese keep the equal length manifolds in Japan. Their STI doesn't sound retarded, and broken.

Glad I got rid of my LGT. Between me and a friend, we tried 3 various ELH, and all of them leak or crack. Not to mention the fragile ring lands... EJ25, worst "performance" engine in a long time.

+1 and biased also. I have a bugeye and it sounds like a Harleycopter- I like it. The TC sounded like it was asleep, but I fixed it.

I <3 the Sti but in a roll race I would say cobalt all the way in 90% of all races. Assuming both drivers of equal caliber.

I test drove an 07 sti in the summer and it felt pretty fast, pretty sure it was modded though. Then I test drove an 11 a few months later and it felt reallllllllly slow, even in sport sharp. I was definitely shocked to say the least

That's what is sad: the newer hatches I love, but they're even slower than the '07 I drove.

I feel the same way. I LOVE the newer hatches. But they feel sooooo slow. I'm sure it didn't help that I drove an Evo X GSR about a month or so before I drove the 11 sti

Stock 2010 Tc - 260hp 260tq - 2,815 lb - 3,001 lb
Stock 2010 Sti - 305hp 290tq - 3373lb
Stats from wiki real life variation possible.

Are you guys saying a stock 2010 SS/TC Vs stock 2010 Sti = Tc win? (from a roll) I didn't think Sti's were that underpowered, are we being a little biased towards the SS/TC or is this really how it is? If so a GMS1 with all that extra tq should have no problems on a roll vs an STI right?

well the ss/tc was underrated from the factory, its actually around 240whp.

the sti is awd so it has much more drivetrain loss than a cobalt. it weighs like 300 lbs less, so from a roll a ss/tc will win.

also when i was bone stock i beat 2 diffrent sti's from a roll that were also stock. both were the hatchback versions tho.

A 16g is definitely capable of 300+ hp. In the Dsm game a lot of guys run 16gs and are in the mid 300s. There's a couple people running 10s with them. They flow mid 40s per min. Plus they last forever. That's on a 2.0 too I'm sure the boxer engine will get a little more ponies. I have seen a couple people make over 400 though in a Dsm so I'm sure it's definitely capable.

16 g is not all that big and 400 wheel is pretty impressive if you throw it on a mustang dyno, stock evo 8's have a 16g and they fully bolted up dont make 400, subarus dont make powers like dsm

16g will not make 400 and maybe with race gas or e85 will break 300.

Things arent the same anymore. Back when subies were big, they were making 300hp, and the mustang gt's of the same year were making 265hp. The last Camaros were making 350 but we all know with some simple mods the subie could be there, even more so from a dig. (with mods) The Vr6 gti was only making 200hp, Mazda Rx8 230hp, 350z were making 300 but didnt have the same torque ratings. The Sti's were a powerhouse subaru just dropped the ball. While everyone else is making the next big thing, the sti stayed the same.

And on the same token your taking a car that in some cases is 6 years newer, and comparing it. I know its extreme but thats like saying, well my tc can beat my dads c4 corvette. Im sure it can, but there is also, 15 year difference, in technology and development. Sti's are using an 20 year old motor, and to say you beat one, doesnt have the same ring it used to. Espically from a roll and in a straight line.

English racing and a coupe other guys made over 400 on e85 with a welded wastegate. It is possible do some research. I had a 16g before I had a s256 on the Dsm. 20 lbs injectors exhaust and intake have you over 300 with a good tune in a Dsm. I can't see why a subie couldn't do it. I never said a 16g was a big turbo I said it was very capable. The evo3 turbo flows around 44 lbs/min which for its size is pretty good. Especially since some 50 trims are only around 49.

Just for fun

20 year old motor is no argument to make... If you want to get silly we can say the corvette is slow cause its motor is 60 years old

I only made 264 hp with my old 16G DSM. I was only on 93 octane, though, and I had some head work done.

This is wrong. Thats crank hp you posted. But what does a Sti put down to the wheels?

stock hp for sti's 04-08 - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com
Looks like anywhere from 200-260whp for the STi based on that website.

So at best your looking at

Stock 2010 Tc - 240hp 260tq - 2,815 lb - 3,001 lb
Stock 2010 Sti - 260hp 290tq - 3373lb
Stats from wiki real life variation possible.

The 20whp difference can not make up the at a minimum 373Ib difference.

Thats exactly my point... to todays standards, it is. Back then thats not the case. 5 years is a long way. Ill use ford again. They went from the 265hp gt, to the 412. Where has the sti been since then... 300, and now base model mustangs make that much.
