(with mods) The Vr6 gti was only making 200hp, Mazda Rx8 230hp, 350z were making 300 but didnt have the same torque ratings. The Sti's were a powerhouse subaru just dropped the ball. While everyone else is making the next big thing, the sti stayed the same.

And on the same token your taking a car that in some cases is 6 years newer, and comparing it. I know its extreme but thats like saying, well my tc can beat my dads c4 corvette. Im sure it can, but there is also, 15 year difference, in technology and development. Sti's are using an 20 year old motor, and to say you beat one, doesnt have the same ring it used to. Espically from a roll and in a straight line.
So you say the older sti's are better than the newer generation, but comparing it to a newer Lnf is unfair? Hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm...
Wouldn't you want to compare the best, which you claim is the older generation? So just because subaru uses older technology it's unfair? If that's the case why dint they update?

I didnt say the older was better than new. However, i used the basis, of an 04 05 becuase, it was best for my example in proving that things change, while subaru didnt. Its had the same, 300hp since 2004. Even look at the cobalt, it saw a second update, in less than 4 years, lsj to lnf. And that saying you beat one, dosent have the same meaning anymore.

Its not about whats fair and whats not, lol your winning against a car that hasn't changed. (and is that your fault, lol nope, just an observation)

Oh and to be fair. Yes they did update, basically suspension only. : ) Why fix it, or update it, when people buy it anyways? Oh and they are talking about doing a big update, with next gen sti, sometime around 2014 but nothing offical has been announced.

I understand, no update or progress in power over the past years. Ive looked into buying a few subarus and all the ones with 100k miles have been rebuilt 2 and 3 times. Really pushes me away from them. When you have 2 rebuilds with 70k miles something is not right, and this is half the ones in craigslist.

the big update is because the rules of the world rally organization are changing. They have to make the car smaller, like Hyundai Accent sized or chevy Aveo sized. They are going to switch to a 1.8L turbo motor (or was it 2.0t?) The car will make about 265hp but will weigh in at about 2700-2800Ibs and AWD.

Heck it might even be a 1.6 turbo. I cant remember but its completely different then what they are doing now. It will be a coupe as well.

If its a 1.6 then its an AWD accent with a turbo. That is actually awesome. Kinda like this photo below

CudaJoe

This is wrong. Thats crank hp you posted. But what does a Sti put down to the wheels?

stock hp for sti's 04-08 - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com
Looks like anywhere from 200-260whp for the STi based on that website.

So at best your looking at

Stock 2010 Tc - 240hp 260tq - 2,815 lb - 3,001 lb
Stock 2010 Sti - 260hp 290tq - 3373lb
Stats from wiki real life variation possible.

The 20whp difference can not make up the at a minimum 373Ib difference.
Obviously it's crank since I took them off wiki... But you are right CudaJoe about how dramatic their drivetrain loss is thanks for the info. I would've never guess they're dyno'ing so low, it's almost laughable to see most in the 240whp range, let's hope for their sake the stock airbox/downpipe are super restrictive and gains aren't hard to get

Are you guys saying a stock 2010 SS/TC Vs stock 2010 Sti = Tc win? (from a roll) I didn't think Sti's were that underpowered, are we being a little biased towards the SS/TC or is this really how it is? If so a GMS1 with all that extra tq should have no problems on a roll vs an STI right?
A GMS1 balt should take a stock STI without a doubt then from a roll, equal driver's? I'm curious because it's usually the first car I'd talk about being close competition with versus my car when people are asking how fast my cobalt is. I'd always say driver's race GMS1 Vs Sti, where as now I can say slightly faster

Almost forgot, if you ask me, the reason why the STi had an update with suspension is because the TC embarrassed it around a racetrack.
