Cold start issue i'm having.

Hey guys i just recently purchased 09 Sport red tintcoat SS. I got it with about 1500 miles on and the 1st owners were an old couple that didn't drive it but on the weekends! Anyway everytime i went to the dealer before buying the car they had already warmed the car up for me. After bringing the car into work the other day I noticed an EXTREMELY loud noise coming the engine bay. I'm kinda leaning to it being a normal noise but I'm not sure. I would take a vid of it but its warm now and won't make the noise when warm. I just sounds like the intake is sucking sooo much air and like the turbo is growling.....After about 45 seconds to a min it calms down and i don't hear it again till the next cold start. Anyway I was trying to read around to no success. Is this normal? Is it this " cat warm up cycle" i've been reading about? Thanks in advance and sorry if i didn't search good enough.

What you are describing sounds like the normal Catalytic converter warm up sequence the cars go through. It's even louder with a short ram intake like I have... lol

yea i just wanted to make sure it was this cycle that i've been reading about but everytime i see someone talk about it, they don't describe it so i was like idk if it is or not. I also didn't want to have to leave the car at the dealer overnite to have them tell me the same thing.

Does it sound like worn out brake pads grinding on the rotors? That's the cat warm-up cycle. What a horrible sounding car the Cobalt SS is on startup. When I first bought it, my wife thought something was broken.

Gotcha on that one. I figured it could be removed with a tune. i just wanted to make sure nothing was "wrong" with it. I haven't ever heard or seen any other LNF's in my area and didn't hear it when i bought it cuz the salesman had it warm everytime i was there. Thanks though guys. Good to know.

yea i've known about the tapping from the sticky that is in the beginning of this section. Just never had anyone post explaining what the cat warm up cycle was. Good to know now. Makes the stock exhaust sound more beastly too. I noticed that as well. Other then that I'm loving this car.
