Damaged my CAR!@!

Already fucked up my new car, havent even changed the oil yet....

Only 2500mi on it and this is what happened...

Was driving to work this morning had a dodge ram 1500 riding my ass, as I do the speed limit, had a car in front of me about 3 seconds distance. had another dodge truck on my right on this two lane road known as route 40 in MD. the car in front of me ran over what looked like 3 krinkled pieces of straw paper that were maybe 10-12 feet long and 6-7 inches wide. These three sheets were kicked up in the air and only then did I realize what I was about to get hit by,.... 3 knarled sheets of aluminum siding laying a lane and a half across the road!!!! Nothing I could do in that split second, ended up running it over and realizing how sturdy it was. It folded on its self and slapped the side of my front bumper while taking out the front lower lip of the bumper and my new license plate holder I just put on the ******* car.

SHORT VERSION
*driving to work
*car in front kicked up aluminum siding that was in the road
* damaged front bumper and skirt.

I know it sucks but as always remember it could be worse.

I'm sure in no time that that twin will be back on the road....Just remember to keep our Sedans sunny-side-up (as my brother reminds me as I'm getting the car ready for some SCCA PDX running this summer)

im not sure if its covered or not, gotta talk to the insurance guy after work, Its not so bad now that I think about it, it really could have been worse....ugh, what if it dragged over the top of my car or across the side. The front lip definately is done, the bumper has gouges and probly need to be replaced? I dont think body filler will work with that. Either way definately needs paint.

Deductible I think is only 100$, HOPEFULLY I wasnt stupid and didnt put 500$ for deductible.

only real concern I have right now is if anything under the car got wrecked. Im gonna check the breaks real carefully when I get out of work, no loose lines..

Oh and I was on route 40 headed north to Delaware (where I work) and it happened just after elkton before reaching the state line to delaware. Kohls was on my "right" about a mile and a half down the road.

Could of been much worse. Isn't that what insurance is for. Unless of course you have a high deductible. I would of got some witness statements also.

!!!!!!! Just looked at my car again... Intercooler is destroyed. How important is it to run an intercooler under little to no boost? I dont plan on running the car hard anytime soon.

from what im estimating, it looks like Im gonna need 1500$ to fix this, ****

I have somehow managed to bust the black wheel lining on the front passenger side of my car...

no big deal, I can get one cheap enough(already had one priced)... but does anyone know where I could get the Push-IN plastic rivets that hold it in? a few of those popped out

as far as how it happened...I honestly don't know

nothing is damaged, I jacked the car up in fear something was... I don't even know how long its been like that, I was changing the oil and noticed it...

I don't remember running over anything, but who knows... you can't even notice it, but I am a neat freak when it comes to my car and its driving me crazy now that I've noticed it...

i am a neat freak too, thats why hitting a chunk of metal and destroying my IC flipped me the f*CK out. Anyways, I noticed that sometimes the screws arent tightened all the way... so maybe the the screws came undone and it just popped off. My front grill wasnt screwed in tight enough. good thing I noticed that.

As for finding the parts, go to your local chevy dealers parts distributor (if you still have a local chevy dealer) and tell them what your missing. They'll have everything that is needed in order to build your car from the ground up.

yeah but considering its just push in pop rivets, you could get them A LOT cheaper aftermarket than at the dealer, what wold cost you a buck in a hardware store, would cost you $9 a piece through GM

Your engine will be ingesting unfiltered air under vacuum.

how would damaging the ic, which is a closed loop heat exchanger, cause the air to suck in unfiltered air?

ok, just to give a heads up on the damage, The IC looked like the incredible hulk punched it, it had a fist size dent square in the middle and was warped into a bowed shape. It was pushed back about 4 inches and touching the plastic engine guard underneath. Saw the claims adjuster yesterday. I did $1399 worth of damage. Need a new intercooler obviously and a new lip. Bumper seems good just need to be repainted.

Also, I still can maintain 15psi of boost through the intercooler, so it didnt get punctured. but Im sure that dent is pretty restrictive, lol.

flobeelicious: he was thinking the intercooler was open to the atmospheric air. meaning damaged so bad there was a hole in the intercooler. If that were the case pressur would not build up thru the piping and the turbo air would blow through the hole and in turn, unfiltered air may come through the hole as a result of the engine thirsting for air.
