Dealer lying? Re: GMS1, CANADA

So I popped by my dealer (which I bought my car from) to inquire about the GMS1. I came prepared with papers from Crate Engine Depot and another GM parts vendor. I initially asked about the stage kit and gave the part number to some grumpy fat ass (honestly, some of the worst customer service I've gotten, no hello or anything!). He pulls up the part, says what it is (which was correct) and goes to say he has none in stock (but says it with a hint in his voice that he could order it, but never said so). I told him when I bought my car they left a promise on the invoice that I would get "dealer cost" on all parts purchased after the car, but he said it was a US part number and is no good for my car here. I went on to say this is a "universal" kit which fits the Sky, Solstice, HHR SS and the Cobalt SS. He continues to state that it's a US part number and it's no good here because Canadian cars are "different." I went on to say I know countless other individuals who have installed this EXACT kit in Canada, with NO issues. I also stated that I could order it from the US for about 600 all in (CAD) and I told him I know someone in Canada who got it for 600 (I believe this to be someone on here?). They went on about US part numbers vs Canadian part numbers and how if I order the kit down there and install it here my warranty is no good, blah blah blah. Same **** every hears right?

Is ANY of this truth or are they just pissed because I was comparing to a US price and they weren't going to get their 100% markup?

I think I may need to find a better dealer for parts (I expected better from my home dealer which I bought the car from, ********.) I think I'm also going to call GM to inquire about this too, but I figured I'd ask here and see what some other Canadian buyers have dealt with as well.

Input?

Definitely go to a different dealer. Or see if you can get through to someone else at that dealer...

My dealer knew nothing of the kit .When I bought my car from them there was talk of GMPP releasing the kit and I told them about this and said I would be back for them to install it.I paid $800 canadian for the kit from them and they installed it and charged me the 2 hours I told them it was supposed to take .It in fact took the tech 2.9 hrs to install. It was the first stage kit they had ever done for any of the lnf cars.I think the smaller dealerships are more worried about being dropped from GM and are more willing to work with the costumers . They made a point of asking me to fill out a Gm questionair and asked that I give a good review.I would have anyway because they always treat me well.

Try going through your salesperson or sales manager (assuming your deal went through without any problems)... Catch up a little and then ask him/her to introduce you to the service department manager and go from there. Back when I bought my Cobra it worked for me

She tried to run the same bullshit through to me too. She was standing right there.

No truth to the part being a US only part. The part is released in Canada. It does have a higher Candian Suggested Retail Price, $1150 CD. vs $650 US. It is an open accessory part which means any dealer in the US and Canada can order it. Some Performance Parts can only be ordered from a Performance Parts Authorized Dealer, not this one though.

I just think they did not want to honor your parts at cost agreement.

I talked with a GM rep (1-800-GMDrive) this morning over the phone. Either he's an idiot too, or maybe there's some truth to some one this?

He told me that each dealership is different, some may not want to order and install this part. He pretty much said the warranty coverage is up to them, and I best get it in writing if I want to ensure my coverage. He pretty much said it's not a Canada part.

Why is this country so full of IDIOTS?! I'm getting real tired of GM. I do enjoy my car, but my god, dealing with them after you buy it is just not worth the time. I'm sure it's like this with other companies too, but for a company (or at least the local ones) that have the slogan "We want you COMPLETELY satisfied," they're doing a real **** poor job at living up to it.

Man you guys need to find new dealerships . There's a guy in the parts department at my dealership that has been following the TC Stage 1 kit since he first heard about it and he doesn't even drive a Cobalt! I'm not expecting any breaks on the MSRP but will go in and discuss it with them anyways; as for your problem I agree, they don't want to honour their initial promise at time of signing, they probably figured you'd never use it and go with all Third-Party aftermarket parts.

Dealer I went to the server desk ppl had no idea. I told them they need to better inform themselves of these items.

thankfully one of the OCC members works as a mechanic and knows about it.

the part # is not US only. they are tools there.

get it from Crate engine Depot. mine came to $633 after conversion and shipping. still below the $750 dealer cost here.

Yeah, as I figured, I checked GMTS and they did have a discussion with a GM HPVO personel about the whole buying in the US/installing in Canada. He says it's the same part number and tune (as I thought). I'm going to try another dealer, and a slightly different approach. I'll update if it works.
