Dipstick Issue?

Hey guys. Anyone else's dipstick reading way over? I have changed my oil twice now and the dipstick has read WAY over ever since I've had the car. What gives?

I would say that that means you have too much oil.

How high uo is it reading. The car holds exactly 5 quarts of oil so if you are draining it completely 5 quarts will fill it up perfectly. That all I do and it fills it to the last mark evertime.

I figured I'd get the "too much oil" response. Haha. I've added five quarts each time I've changed my oil and each time it's read high. I've also had the dealer change it...still read high. I'd say it's reading high by AT LEAST a quart. The car has been at level each and every time I've checked it.

Wrong dipstick maybe?

don't know how its possible, but maybe your dipstick tube is slightly short, or installed slightly too deep into the pan.

Is it possible that some of the oil isn't draining out? Perhaps some gets trapped somewhere.

When are you checking the oil? That is the important question. Are you checking it on a Cold Engine? Or are you running the engine for a few minutes and then checking it?

I can put 6 qts in mine and not be over the the limit.

Or maybe you are reading the dip stick wrong. Haha.

6.5??? THAT sounds high. My S/C takes 6 and its full. I would think 6.5 would be overfilled.

But I would imagine that the SS/TC's take a little bit more oil.

the ss/tc's actually use alot less oil. my 2.0 is a little over 6.5 quarts to fill. my 2.2 was around 5 or so.

Oil and Filter

Are you changing your oil filter at the same time, that can hold some oil in it. Try to measure the amount of oil drained by putting it back in the used containers from the new oil.

I'm changing the filter as well and checking the oil after having it sit overnight since I originally thought checking it "warm" was the issue. I don't see how I can be checking it incorrectly. The oil is pretty far up the twisted metal part of the stick.

I also used a 6qt pan to drain the oil into and both times it was the correct among of oil (5qts) that drained out.

Probably gonna have to have the dealer check it out. Looks like the stick or even the tube (as someone mentioned earlier) is not right in one way or another.
