dyno results suck

ok so i went to dyno my ss today and wasnt happy with the outcome lol.
someone from the shop said i might have a boost leak or maybe it was just because
it was a mustang dyno. but my numbers only came out to be 266/278.
y so low?
my mods r hahn intake, catless downpipe, injen ic piping, and trifecta tune 23 psi

But you understand that no matter what dyno you use, you still have the same power, right? What are you trying to prove and who are you trying to prove it to? I hope you're not spending money on useless dyno runs to impress some pimple-face keyboard warriors on this site.

Exactly. I'd fine ONE dyno and use that same dyno to log your power increases as you mod more. Every dyno will read different, hell the same one will.

Every dyno is different I dynoed 225hp 225 tq stock on a mustang dyno. We have similar mods so
your numbers will probably be close to what I get when I dyno again. That's an increase of 41hp and 53tq over stock, which is the important thing. Take it to a dynojet if you're looking for big numbers.

I've done what you are thinking about doing. Went to a mustang dyno on a "dyno day" and thought the numbers were lower according to what everyone says about mustang dynos. So later that week I went to a dynojet, and to my surprise the numbers were almost the same and not worth the extra $80.
It's all about where you go. I told the dynojet guy I thought it would be more than the mustang dyno, and he told me that if I want the numbers to be higher he can make them whatever I want, but this is how they set up the dyno up normally.

So unless you think the shop has shotty equipment, I wouldn't spend the extra money.

My runs were

279hp 300tq =Mustang

282hp 312tq= Dynojet

Sounds like dyno operator error to me. The thing with the mustang dyno is that it requires operator input (vehicle weight and other parameters) in order to accurately load the dyno and "simulate" real world driving.

Your numbers do sound "low" but unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast with load bearing/eddy current dynos... Too many variables.

Dynojet FTW

All of these threads are one reason why I never dyno my cars. Numbers are only there to impress other people, and you can make the numbers read whatever you want. Want a true measure of power? Trap speed. Otherwise, GTFO.

Absolutely true, however it is a great tuning tool and performance yard stick, but its is not by any means an end all guarantee in performance. People tend to focus on the peak numbers instead of the full power curve and all around setup of the vehicle.

So you are saying that it's better to have a dyno that never accurately loads the car than it is to have one that requires some information so that it can accurately load the car?

i kno it doesnt really mean anything but i was just curious. and to see my numbers that diff then what i see on this site i just wanted to clear things up thats all lol. i still kno where i stand based on how much i beat other cars around here lol.

o and another thing i thought was weird was that my numbers varied kinda a lot from run to run? first run i put down 253. second run my charge pipes blew off lol. third run is where i put down the 266. maybe it woulda went even more higher if i went again?
eh who cares. just a thought lool.

A Mustang Dyno will give you roughly 10% less power difference than a Dyno Jet. for example:

I dyno'd my cobalt with the GSM1 on a mustang dyno campared to what i might run on a dynojet doing the Math.

Mustang............DynoJet
268 WHP..........292 WTQ
284 WHP..........312 WTQ
