it seems that on most of the forums, there is talk about how GM has improved their big brother "act" in that they will now be able to tell how many times the ECM has even been reflashed, therefore this would maybe create a problem if warranty work was ever needed, because of reflashing from a tuner product. it is much easier to to have another ECM and have that loaded with whatever software you desire from your tuner, or even load a tuner's product on it, so if you need to go to the dealer, you just swap out ECM's. From what I understand when you first switch out the ECM, you need to have it do a "crank relearn" and after that you can switch out as often as you like.
I may not be an avid racer as some of you go to the track alot, so I don't forsee having warranty problems, but I do like the thought of having extra power and the power the engine was meant to have at my disposal. I had a tune on my 03 SSR and it really woke the engine up, it was more fun to drive than before.
and that is why I need and want another ECM

good point, I guess there is no way around it, if you really get down to it. I did not realize that the ECM tracks mileage, but then I learn something new everyday....

Very true , the only time i have come close to having to check info like that is on a duramax diesel that had holes in two different pistions because of ether, but all PQC (powertrain quality control) wanted is for us to check the calibration version of the ECM because we can see if you have an aftermarket tune by checking calibration numbers on the tune which is completly different from the versions GM has, but we have never had to check how many times the ECM has been reflashed, it is really no big deal.
