Engine Mount Question

I realize this is apples to oranges, but I used to own an '04 SVT Focus and replaced the lower engine mount to significantly reduce engine movement. It worked out quite well. I could've replaced the upper two mounts as well if I wanted, but it wasn't totally necessary. Initially I did have some increased vibration, but after a few hundred miles most of it subsided.

So my question is, can I replace just one of the engine mounts in my '09 SS and have similar results?

I don't race the car - It's just my DD that I occasionally mess around with. I'd just like to reduce some of the engine/trans movement under acceleration. TIA

Stock mounts are fine, unless your pushing crazy power lol

if you want, you can buy my mounts

I have the TTR upper motor mount and polyurethane transmission mounts. All are ready to install and I'll let them go cheap! lol

Stock mounts are soft, and allow the engine to move like crazy, even at stock power levles.

That being said, if you replace one mount, you're going to be putting extra stress on the others. Best bet is to replace all, or at least get the stiffer bushing inserts the help out. I haven't hear of anyone breakin a mount, so I wouldn't worry about it too much if you can only afford one for now.

After looking at the pic of the upper mount, I went out and opened the hood on my car.

Looks as if it's located right under the air filter box.

Is the upper mount as easy to swap out as it looks, or can it be a PITA?

Not trying to be an ass, but I don't understand this.

It seems to me that if I replace the upper mount there will be less overall movement, therefore less stress on the other mounts.

Upper mount is the most simple, 2 nuts, 3 bolts, takes less than 15 minutes.

so i have a question... i recently put on TTR upper motor mount and i realized that my car began to vibrate especially during hard acceleration. I understand i get vibrations from the mount being solid but i feel as if i get abnormal vibrations when im pushin it. The person who tuned my car told me that it could be because i only have one solid mount while the others are stock?? any advice?

Possibly, but you should only really notice vibs at idle... Vibs are coming from the low RPM imbalance, naturally occuring on 4 cylinder engines. As the engine revs the frequency increases and disapates the vibrations. This is why you should not have vibs as noticable at higher RPM's over idle.

Check you other mounts to make sure something isn't broken.

Also verify it is not an exhaust hitting the frame/exhaust channel. I had this happen once, thought it was a bad wheel balance, but it was my exhaust... Make sure it is not something else rubbing...

thank u ill definitely check the exhaust... the vibration is only during hard acceleration... not cruising nor deceleration?? what are some other possibilities??

Honestly I would have to assume it is something moving under hard acceleration, like your exhaust rubbing... That would be my 1st guess.

not if it is rubbing, there is no room to clunk...

FYI we are not stating just the exhaust, it could be other items rubbing. Just look the car over well to make sure nothing is broke/out of place.

STG. 2 rotated trans mounts! I highly recommend these. I still have the stock upper mount, and after installing just the two lower mounts, I have NO wheel hop anymore. Vibrations increased at idle, but feels just as smooth as stock when driving.

He has vibs as he pushes it hard/accelerates. This is not happening at idle. If it happens at idle it is mounts, when it is happening for him it is not at idle, which means it is most likely not mounts.

Thanks for editing your original post, it was a bit over the top, especially considering I was replying to the original poster, not the thread-jacker BlueSSS/C The original question by Hamrhead was if he could replace the lowers without the upper, so I was recommending the OTTP rotated mounts, which I have had very good results with .

And you are correct in the reply to BlueSSS/C, its likely something else, and Blue, you should post that question under the correct forum to get a good answer.

Actually it's the other way around. I'm only looking to replace the upper mount.

Still on my 'to do' list. Hopefully I can get it done during my Christmas vacation.

If you get the engine mount and want a cheap set of tranny mounts to go with it, I am trying to sell a set cheap. Let me know. They are never used
