Even more proof! 08 Cobalt SS with LNF engine in vin decoder

Hey guys, found another little tidbit to confirm the 08 SS/TC.

http://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vi.../vincard08.pdf

TC Proof, or as I like to call it, how to put together a VIN number by GM.

According to the vin decoder, 2008 will have a Cobalt SS (code A/S) with the LNF engine! (LNF engine is listed for division 1,2,8 AKA Chevy, Pontiac, Saturn, respectively)
True, the Chevy HHR will have the LNF, but we have no mention about a Cobalt SS for 08. Since they dropped the supercharged SS, it must be turbocharged

Enjoy! Man, it's amazing how much stuff you can find from GM if you look online. You think they'd at least try to make it a little more difficult to find.

Hope I've posted this right, first post...

There's also mention of the Saturn Astra XR in there, which will also more than likely have the 2.0T. Interesting stuff, good find!

If I'm not mistaken, its the VXR that has the 2.0T. I don't doubt that GM would bring that over sooner or later though!

i think thats a good thing because it will make people think, "oh god, a 2.4 SS that did a wing and ss/sc bumper swaps" not really knowing that its a 2.0 TC under the hood

good call GM a factory sleeper

Where on the decoder does it specifically say that 08 cobalt ss will have a turbo?

just to help you out. the Cobalt 1SP is the cobalt sport which was formerly known as Cobalt SS non supercharged. Since GM did away with the LSJ (supercharged engine) they still have the SS cobalt listed in the VIN codes. the only SS worthy engine listed is the LNF.

Not to burst anyone's bubblem but 07 VIN decoder doesnt mention an SS Cobalt at all! Check this link

http://www.goodwrench.com/gmgoodwren...007vincard.pdf

Just because turbo engine is listed doesnt necessarily mean that it will be in the 08 cobalt SS

Hell, the LS7 is listed, maybe they'll thrown that in the 08 SS, LOL!

Like said before this dosent prove anything. It just lists all the motors for all those cars. The lnf could just be there for the gxp and sky redline. It proves nothing. If you where to look up the 07 vin decoder it would list the lnf and the lsj but dosent tell you what car they go in.

Personally, I am more than satisfied with my supercharger and don't see me wanting a turbo EVER!. I get plenty of horsepower and lots of torque right out of the gate. I can't stand turbo lag, and yeah, you get a great boost (once your RPMs are up) but by that time, the other car is already at the 1/8 mile marker. FTW

Hence the document posted earlier is an 08 vin decoder no an 07 decoder. 08 typicaly means updated. i would expect it to be an 08 and 1/2 model. which would mean that it would be some time around august/september next year
