First Drive in my new SS Turbo..Ex Racer's Take
I just picked up my 09 SS TC today in Monterey Ca and drove this car FOR THE FIRST TIME! Yep..no typo..for the FIRST TIME. I have been reading about this car for some time and all I need to know was what it did on different tracks compared to other cars (as published in various Mags and articles)..Germany, Laguna Seca..Etc. I bought this car without ever really driving it or seeing it (except for a very quick drive around the block with a dealer Demo car to *see* the type of car it was) . Saw it on the internet for a GREAT price used (8K mi) and hit the *buy* button pronto.
I had the good fortune of driving this car 350 Miles back to So Cal and I took the car on Highway 198 in Central Calif as part of this trip. This road is well known to car buffs and is a VERY challenging back road. I used to drive it when comming up to Laguna Seca to race my Porsche back in the old days. Yes I have a background in racing cars with the Porsche Clubs in Calif and have run many types tracks out here in Ca over the years.
Well folks..this car is flat out Friggn' AMAZING! I don't recall my Porsche (which was set up for the track) comming close to what this little STOCK baby can do. The car runs on rails... STOCK. I tossed this car all over the place on the back roads and it simply took everything I could throw at it. SOLID!!! Car never got upset or nervous..AMAZING..for a car I just drove off the lot BONE STOCK. Took it up to only 120 a bunch of times...quick and dirty...car not phased at all. Also, I ran it in 3rd gear from 4000-6000RPM (approx 60-90MPH) several times and clocked the time it took. I have used this test on many cars to get a *feel* for the HP available. Damn...it did this in around 5.3 sec..that's VERY quick my friends..very quick indeed for 60-90MPH.
I LOVE THIS CAR!
Here is a pic aftert I got home:

This car is brutally fast as is...REALLY. Once the boost kicks in...BAM. BTW, I was getting 22 Lbs at times and 20 on a regular basis. I'm amazed that the CPU allows this much boost on pump gas 91 Oct
Having said this, I did order the GM1 kit for ***** and giggles. I just can't imagine what the added power does...I bet the stock set up is a handful for most people carving through the mountains and such. I have heard of Trifecta as well, just wanted *turn key* factory set up and backing. We'll soon see and I'll post results here. I should see an improved 4k-6k RPM time in Third, which is my little poor man's dyno.

It responds well to suspension mods too. Pedders springs/coilovers would be my suggestion. You'll be having so much fun after GM Stage 1 that you won't want to get out of the car. lol

Nice looking TC
Check out the link in my signature for my thread with the dyno chart from my GMS1 run.
I think GMS1 is AWESOME for what it is. Factory warrantied and I picked up around 45whp and 75wtq!! How can you complain about that? The car is a whole new animal once you install it.
One word of advice. I would enjoy the car stock for a while if I were you....while stock still feels fast. Once youve become used to that power, add GMS1 and itll be like getting a new car all over again!
