to be completely honest that car does not look too bad makes you wonder if they were all wearing their seatbelts what would have happened it would also show the safety of the car but because only one person was wearing their seatbelt you cant really draw any conclusions. Hopefully everything goes alright and tehy get better.

Well of course, but people were being really hard on his post when it really wasn't what he ment. I belive in seatbelt use, I think there is something wrong with a person who dosn't wear their seatbelt. I'm probably opening myself up to all sorts of flaming here but honestly guys, this **** is not worth your life; Especially the "its uncomfortable" crap.

Precisely. The driver should be the only one who holds the decision. If the driver says you wear it, you wear it. Otherwise, it's your own life, do with it what you wish.

 

I agree... I think its passengers responsibility to choose if they wear one or not... but if you get pulled over and the passengers dont have seat belts on the driver gets a ticket

 

Yeah. Honestly, no one gets in my car without a seatbelt. For reasons like what happened to me and to your friends. Never entered my mind until I got crushed by another human being. Just say you hit a tree along a road where the speed limit's 55mph...would you willingly and knowingly in ANY other situation want to get hit by 150lbs of mass traveling at a steady 55 mph with only YOUR BODY to slow it down?

But yeah, if you allow or choose not to wear your belt, you shouldn't get a ticket. I DO think you should be limited or excluded from suing for damages as a result of a crash though.

 

And in MI, if the driver or the passenger feels free to not use their seatbelt, the cops that pulls them over can inform them they are free to not use it, just so long as they pay the cost of the ticket every time they get caught.

Its law (in some states) because reduces reduces injuries in crashes (statistically) which reduces cost to society in terms of insurance cost, lost work, emotional trama, etc, etc. The politicians that make the laws determined this is more beneficial than the right of the individual to make the decision to wear a belt or not.

This scumbag (druggie) had 4 people in his back seat & none of them had their seatbelts on (cause they are stupid), and they got pulled over by a cop because he saw 4 people sitting in the back seat of a sedan (& he knows there aren't 3 seat belts back there). So, he pulls over the car & writes the driver 4 tickets for seatbelt violations because none of them were above 16, & the driver is like 19....

Its not just that. The real decision behind manditory laws is the minor wreck - you weren't wearing your seatbelt you lose control of the car after the initial impact (because you are no longer in your seat) and run down the little old lady pushing baby twins and are unable to hit the breaks in time. Get the picture? Its not just YOUR life you are taking in your hands, its people outside of the car that get hit after you loose control because you were not held in your seat in what would have otherwise been a minor wreck. Does this make sense?

Helmet laws however... If you are dumb as a stump and don't wear a helmet, as long as you have insurance feel free to kill yourself, grind your face off, smash every bone in your face (while turning into a parking lot at 2mph - look up the stories). I look at the unsafe riders not wearing the correct equipment (and that includes those half shell helmets) and just think about how stupid they are for riding like that... No, its doesn't look cool. unless having an IQ less than the sandal size they are wearing is cool.

No one ever rides in my car without a seatbelt, you don't like it, you get out of the ******* car. As the driver of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure everyone is buckled up. If you fail to do such, YOU can be charged for people in YOUR car not wearing their seatbelts. Now its hard for them to push this in court if none of the people in the car want to press charges, either way, its not worth it. How good would you feel if you got into an accident and everyone else got fucked up because you didn't enforce the rule of wearing a seatbelt? I know I would feel like ****.

Same here, my car does NOT move without everyone doing up their seatbelt, mine's probably saved my life twice.

Agrered to a degree...but even if they have insurance, the cost of their stupidity is borne by the other helmeted insured riders whose premiums have to rise to cover the huge expenses, and that's unfair as hell.

I'd feel better about it if insurance companies put the helmetless riders into their own high-risk pool. Perhaps the stunning premiums that would result could change a few minds on this ignorant practice!

if they are 18 or older they will be ticketed for not wearing seatbelt, under 18 driver is liable for seatbelt usage
